What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Got some crown vic wheels for the ranger. Should be nice enough to rattle can them tomorrow. Has 215/60s on the front and 235/60s on the back. Its what the tire shop had used and cheap lol

Well, headlight relay harness was a no-go. Its for older style lights. Luckily, my jeep used those style lights and now has bright headlights, ha ha ha.

Do the 9007 style lights need that harness too? I feel like they do because the light uotput is very dim and yellow compared to my other vehicles but i cannot find the same type of relay upgrade for an 04 ranger. Seems like they just swap to led bulbs instead?

So this morning I went poking around a little and found my tie down chains keeping dad’s chain binders company. Haven’t seen any of them in over 3 years and they weren’t supposed to be where they were at, so that was a bonus. Then the UPS guy showed up early with three boxes for me. That was when I was on my way to look for my dolly which was right where I suspected it might be. Back to the packages, one was from a drawing I entered back in July and never emailed them back with my address (www.Treestuff.com rocks), and contained a Rope Runner Pro.

Also got some vitamins

And my Summit Racing order, which should give me plenty of bits and pieces for the rest of the plumbing on the Ranger and some protective sleeves for the plug wires

Not sure if I should use Teflon tape, PTFE tape, or Pro Dope on the pipe fittings. Anyone have recommendations?

Teflon is just a brand name for PTFE.

The only difference better white and the blue pipe tape should be the thickness. Blue stuff should be ticket to help with the larger clearance on stainless threads.

No stainless, everything is aluminum. The fittings are black anodized and the hard line I’m using is 5/8” aluminum. 5/8” rubber hose for the heater core and water pump connections. Got a fitting for each hard line with a brass hose barb to hook up the intake

AN fittings should not need tape or dope. They seal by matingbthat special bevel on the end. But any regular npt threads should probably have some dope applied.

Id go with the pipe dope, Ive had issues the past few times with tape, even the thick yellow stuff meant for a propane/nat gas line. Had quite a time getting my ventless heater line to be sealed. 1/2 psi is harder to be “sealed” than 80 psi air compressor fittings.

Yeah, not trying to tape or dope anything but the NPT threads, which is the nipple from the intake, the Tee, the 45* on the NPT side, the reducer bushing, and the hose barbs

I think tape vs dope is just preference. Technically you shouldn’t need anything to seal, it’s just there to help lubricate the threads and make it easy to tighten.
The tape does help to seal to some extent, especially on the harder metals.

Just an FYI…
9004 and 9007 use the same connector, they are just pinned differently.

Is 9004 the glass round headlights from the 80s?

I know it would be easier to just drop in led bulbs but would the housings aim properly? I read lots of the harnesses swapped the lights to zenon but i dont know what that is and than there were lots of harness kits to stop flicker when changing to other bulb types.

I am fine with the older yellow light output but its just not to bright.

No… A 9004 looks like a 9007.

Finished my 3rd gen parking brake pedal and cable conversion on my 86, no more hard to find parts or bent pedal, and works much better now
