it is illegal and people steal them for the platinum that is in it.
I have a U-Pull place I go to and I have been looking for the exhaust pipes that bolt to the headers and down to the Y pipe off of a 4.0, BUT EVERY SINGLE ONE was cut halfway up the pipes before the Y pipe...... Why dont they just cut ONE pipe after the Y pipe before the Cats...

The one down the road from my house is Pic-a-Part,

I found a 428CJ water pump pulley on an old F250, they gave it to me for 5 bucks, I just sold it on ebay for $325


I have probably given my local Pic-a-Part as many parts/cars as I've gotten from them

I buy from him so often, most small parts are just given to me.

Pick'n'Pull pissed me off today.

They systematically destroy every one of certain items just because they don't give a rat's ass. Most RWD and 4WD driveshafts get destroyed by the forklifts, for instance. And today, I discovered those assholes punched holes in EVERY LAST differential cover in the yard to save 30 seconds draining the fluid. That pisses me off almost as much as guys cutting wiring harnesses to save 5 seconds with a connector (at least with those, you can go to one of the 6 other 1991-92 Exploders in the yard and find another).

When I did the EATC conversion, it costed me around $120 for everything. $75 just for the display control unit.

What vehicle did you pull your EATC from? I have mine as a hybrid system, parts from a 98 Explorer and control unit & PWM from a 2001 Expedition. Has been working great, no problems for over a year now.

I pulled it from a 97 Explorer,

They didn't even know what it was lol.
The counter girl said, "it's just miscelenous electrical parts, $20" I was smiling from ear to ear as I walked away, I had planned on spending a c-note so I went and hid the stuff in my truck and went back for round 2.

Cutting the wires is a "standard junkyard practice", as for the differentials, why would they need to drain the fluid?

Pretty sure they have to drain all fluids so they don't leak onto the ground when the vehicle is sitting there. It's an environmental issue.

Am I the only one here who's never been to a junkyard?

Because it's self-service, they are supposed to drain all the fluids before putting the vehicle in the yard. 'Cause -- trust me -- the customers would never bother with a bucket in a million years.

All used automotive fluids, including radiator water, are pollutants.

The U-WRENCH-IT yard I go to lets me into the prep area. I get first pick of cars and trucks before they hit the main yard. Its like a hobby of mine to get stuff every week from the 'yards around here and resell online..... The yard guys think its funny since I don't have a trailer so I bring the Ranger with my 12' fishing boat intow... Load them both up and head home with me bounty...

Not the yard I go to, I had to drain the rear end dope out of an Expo to get the cover. And your right, I didn't take a bucket...

Anytime I head for the junkyard. I don't get too many pieces of the things I want. And I do want, they have for an insane price. I mostly go for interior parts. Anything I can find a use for. I'm hopeing to find a set of the newer Ranger's leather seats. Or maybe some rims, if they are in good condition.

I know exactly what you mean. My local Pick'N'Pull puches holes in EVERYTHING, including engine oil pans. Way too lazy to pull the drain plug I guess.......

And you can forget about ever finding a rear driveshaft that isn't "tweaked" from the forklifts.

a guy i know bought the largest engine mercedes used to make to put in his rag top of the same make.20,000 miles on it for 200$!
funny thing about those places-some pos chevy will be stripped down all the way to the rusty lug nuts while the odd balls sit mostly untouched.

It's an EPA regulation for them to drain all the fluids. Try getting a gas tank from a yard. Nice holes in those too.

I went to go get a pig for my old B2s D28 a few years ago and they handed me a drain pan at the front office.

I've been thinking about going up to the local U-Pull-It and nabbing some parts for AC, Power windows/locks, and maybe a headunit with cd and a tape deck. I bet I could find one, they have a basket with around 200 headunits out of the vehicles thrown in. Not knowing what parts I need for the AC is why I havent gone yet. As well as not being able to get the clicky remote thing for the power locks since they don't include the keys on most vehicles, and none of the 3 Rangers they have are powered.
