As I have had NOOO time to upgrade to D35/8.8, I go to Pick-a-Part to grab a RT side axle shaft. Kid behind the counter says " Sector shaft ?? " , I agree and proceed to pay $9.00 instead of the $30.00 !!

Yep, got to love Pick'N'Pull, I went there and as I was pulling my wallet out, their computer system crashed, rather then doing everything by hand, he said just take it. I had a whole bunch of interior parts, an Alpine CD player, and a whole wheel barrow of random odds and ends, probably well over $100.

sometimes i wish i had my very own jusnk yard, but then i know every one would be wanting to haul off my retired RVBs to the scrap yard. ive already had 3 people ask if i wanted to scrap my project truck. damnit get a real job and stop bugging me!

Pick-a-Part? I have Pull-a-Part and Del-City Pickups that I go to. Mostly Del-City pickups as they carry the lasest models of any Ford or GM trucks & SUV's. Pull-a-Part just gives me ideas of projects.

heh.
When i went to pull the stock distributor springs from an old 302, they had no idea what they were or how to charge me, so they let me have them.
Apparently they are next to impossible to buy locally....couldn't find them anywhere. Keep in mind that most 60's - 70's distributors points style distributors are different. Couple shops had the "advance kit" POS upgrades...but outside of buying a new distributor, the stock springs were NOWHERE.
However, our "pull a part" wanted 80 or so for back end of a 2 piece driveshaft outta an old ranger(I broke the rear flange and ujoint at the rear end). Couldnt find one there.
Went to some little dumpy one junkyard, they told me 10 bucks for the whole thing. Pulled it out, and they said umm...well maybe 15. Even though they raised the price 50%, i will still happy as a kid at a candyshop. 15$ for an entire 2 piece driveshaft out of a 88 4wd ex cab. I had been quoted 150$ from one place who said they were rare, and to have it built from the local diesel shop...you don't even wanna know.

I get great deals at my local J-yard.

I buy from him so often, most small parts are just given to me. Also, unlike most bigger yards, he barders with me.

There is a Pull-a-Part down by St. Louis. They have a standardized pricing catalog. No matter how rare a part is a part to them.

5 speads-$48
Transfer Cases-$74
4cyl-$100
6cyl-$130
etc,etc.

Crazy. Next time I have a good pile of cash, I'm going with a trailer!

Pick'n'Pull pissed me off today.

They systematically destroy every one of certain items just because they don't give a rat's ass. Most RWD and 4WD driveshafts get destroyed by the forklifts, for instance. And today, I discovered those assholes punched holes in EVERY LAST differential cover in the yard to save 30 seconds draining the fluid. That pisses me off almost as much as guys cutting wiring harnesses to save 5 seconds with a connector (at least with those, you can go to one of the 6 other 1991-92 Exploders in the yard and find another).

They are bad with that.

Wouldn't be that hard to drop a driveshaft or remove a diff cover.....

We, mainly my fiance' , just bought her new project from our local j-yard. I dont wanna say too much about it cuz she's excited to finally have something to join TRS for, but It's basically the cleanest 92 ranger I've ever seen for $650 :icon_surprised:

BTW at our local yard prices change hourly depending on who you talk to and how they're feeling. I've had transmissions change prices by $60 over the course of lunch!

There was a place I used to go to quite a bit that had "all you can carry" days...$45 regardless of what you walk out with...I was amazed by a few guys carrying engine parts...but I think I topped them...had two bucket seats, alternator, front grill, and a few miscellaneous parts hung about my body with bungee cords...the seats were hard to balance...but I didn't want to go back that day...

Another time I pulled into one, got what I needed and was about to leave...the starter went right there in the parking lot...went back in...grabbed a starter for $25 and put it in before I drove off...

Ah, those memories..:)

I love the pull-a-part, today I picked up a whole EATC set up for 20 bucks, sensors and all.

Also picked up a couple expo radio bezels, and a ohc. gonna mod the factory expo bezel for my off road light switches.

They also had like 7 expo rear ends with disks, thinking about going next weekend to grab one

Ours is called a u-pull-it. :icon_thumby:
Every weekend they sell certain parts for 10-50 dollars off. I keep waiting for them to have the part I need on sale but it never seems to happen..

Lucky!!! :headbang:

When I did the EATC conversion, it costed me around $120 for everything. $75 just for the display control unit.

What vehicle did you pull your EATC from? I have mine as a hybrid system, parts from a 98 Explorer and control unit & PWM from a 2001 Expedition. Has been working great, no problems for over a year now.

I have my own pick a part on my lower property. We've takin in, stripped and scrapped probably 6 B2s, 2 rangers and now have 3 sploders, and shit ton of spare parts stored from the previous rigs we've dismantled.

Yeah , I know what you mean. I went looking for a cat converter for my sisters Neon. Every vehicle through the Pick a Part had them removed. Some parts you just can't get throught them.
