What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Last edited:
went to the junkyard and got new ford badge for the tailgate and new dome light. Can't get the dome light to work yet though.

Oh and I discovered the rattling sound in my door was broken glass that had never been cleaned up, so I took care of that!

The switches for the dome light are in the door latches, them sticking on is a thing so someone might have unplugged the connectors, but it should come on with the switch on the light too though.

i saw a really nice square body ranger yesterday while out bike riding. it was a white single cab 4x4 and the owner must love it because it looked garage kept.

i drove my ranger to work today.

Actually at 10pm last night, must have used more juice fixing trailer lights than I thought.

The other day I noticed several evap monitor tests failed when exploring through Car Scanner Pro. So, I fired up the magic smoke machine I made to see if I could find any leaks. I didn't find any obvious leaks using smoke. After reading up in it I came across something that said the test isn't run if it is over 90°, so maybe that's the reason it says the test failed. I did notice the o-ring/seal on the gas cap look like it deteriorated. It ended up being dust that stuck to it over the years. I soaked it in some warm water and Dawn detergent to clean it up, put a little silicone grease on it and put it back on the gas cap. I did a search for replacement gas cap seal, but couldn't find one for Ford gas caps. I know the gas caps are only about $10, but it would be nice to be able to replace 99¢ o-ring instead of buying a new gas cap.

Made an appointment for the truck to go to the garage because I keep getting air in the brake lines even after they are blead but I can't find the source. They have to have a leak somewhere but I just can't pull it apart anymore myself so I'll give the headache to someone else.

So far I've replaced both wheel cylinders because they were leaking, a brake line to the rear, both front brake hoses because they were cracked and the master cylinder and that darned brake light still comes on dim.

I travel over 44 mile one way to see the GF over mountainous terrain so I need good brakes. I'm just done dealing with it myself.

Do you have a large life insurance policy with the GF as beneficiary, and does she know anything about brakes?

I passed an "ultimate driving machine" near home tonight in the '97... after laying on my horn several times trying to tell her that she was in my way... you'd think an "ultimate driving machine" wouldn't be making sudden small corrections and random brake light flashes at 45mph in a "basic rule" (Oregon thing, if no signs present and conditions are safe, 55mph) zone that I normally cruise at 63mphish in my "mediocre commuter pickup truck"... then promptly got stuck behind someone else doing 52mph, so I took a slightly different route and got stuck behind a county rig picking up road cones from after painting road lines... which of course is much more relaxing since they have a reason other than being a drunk bleached blond 50ish year old "Karen" driving a beamer 10 under the limit to avoid suspicion... After I got behind the cone truck just stuck in 3rd at low speed and let my nerves settle, then made myself a stiff drink and mowed the yard...

Before you lay judgement, I'd been behind Karen for like 5-8 miles before I passed her, a twin I beam shouldn't be out handling a BMW by like 1000%, she wouldn't keep up with the Scion Xb or whatever was in front of her at one point... the Scion was doing 55... it's Friday night, I wanted to get home...
