What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

It's still pretty cold up here in Minnesota. I continue to detail my truck a little bit at a time. You know the drill: 1. wash and dry 2. remove old wax 3. clay bar 4. polish 5. detail spray and wipe.

I will be putting on a new graphene hybrid wax as soon as the weather warms. I don't have a hundred dollars for one of those little bottles of ceramic coating. So this time I will be using a hybrid Turtle Wax product called Pro Graphene Flex Wax. I've always thought of Turtle Wax as a plain Jane brand, but independent reviews of this new stuff gets high marks for shine, durability, ease of application, cure time, and price. It should last about a year. I can always add more detailing sprays or just simply wax back over the original base without stripping the first coat off. I bought it on sale for $17.95.

I hope it works.

Today I took off my overload coils from the rear axle, the back road I drive daily is not very smooth, Im going to see if it will ride a little better with just the stock suspension. Its not like I haul anything that heavy anyhow, the last heavy load was a full 55 gallon drum of gasoline last year when gas got cheap for a little bit. I dont see myself buying 55 gallons of gas again anytime soon.

I have a gallon garden sprayer that I use for replacing the fluid in the manual transmission. I'm not sure how well that it would work with 80w90. Probably very slow. The pickup tube in them is very narrow.

The idea is to pressurize the gallon jug with a compressor, this will push the oil up the tube into the differential. Works good, problem is you don’t push all the oil from the jug. It’s way less messy the trying to pour the oil, ends up taking the same amount of time because you don’t have to waste time spilling oil on yourself and then cleaning it up.

Yes, I understand that. Garden sprayers have a hand pump that pressurizes the jug.

Sounds like... a Coleman lantern! :icon_idea:

The last time I put oil in a diff I snagged it in the Valvoline pouch things, worked pretty slick.

I saw those, but it was $14.99 a quart (for synthetic) and Walmart was out of stock. So, I bought the gallon jug for $15.29. I know what not to do the next time, and it took more than the 2.4 quarts as specified in the manual, even when accounting for the pint or so that I oiled the driveway with and the exterior of the differential with.

Anyway, the clunk is 75% gone with the new gear oil, so maybe the old stuff was worn out.

i have a little hand pump for fluids. i forget what those kinds of pumps are called but i take the cap off the bottle, put the pick up line, and put the outlet line into the diff or transmission and pump the handle a few times. works great and is no mess

i forgot to also post that the ranger is back from its safety recall and has two new front airbags in it. still runs great and looks good though

In the name of the Bronco we got the wife's old car sold tonight.

Not exactly Ranger, but dad helped me get the tow dolly fixed up today. Fenders are ready to be bolted on sans paint (they aren’t done, but done enough to use). Wiring is run, mostly, had a small hiccup so it’s bypassed for the moment. Plugs are on. Need to find some bolts and get the fenders attached and get a plug on the F-150 (had to cut the wires when the back bumper started falling off, plug was junk anyway) then I can see about fetching the red Ranger back home tomorrow.

Ordered new tires. Decided to try the Milestar Patagonias because they were fairly cheap. I was able to order 5 285/75/16’s for a little over $1k. Matt’s off-road runs them and he really likes them. For the price they’re worth trying out.

My new Trans shipped today. Should here the beginning of next week. I hope to have it in by the end of next week. But nothin ever goes as planned. So it’ll be running in a month or so…

I replaced a radiator and also the fan clutch. My Ranger ran on the warm to really warm side since I got it last summer. The temps are normal again, finally. I Get my parts from Rock Auto, my go to place if I have time to wait for parts.... An amazing company. The parts were a perfect fit, as always.

If I may, Amazon has some great deals on tires.
$96 per tire including your local area installation. A no brainer. Hankook too...
