My credo
A properly suspensioned Ranger can be safely airborne for up to 4 seconds at a time! =:O
A "friend" let his current set of rad & heater hoses go a bit too long... in the hot, humid, SALT air of So-Fla... when bypassing a recent failure of the Rube Goldberg tees-to-feed-the-Intake-Manifold, I, err, "he" noticed some troubling rust where hoses attach... wondering if anything needs to be done before cinching down some new rubber:

Here's the heater hose attach point off the water pump:

Most of the black is "melted" hose residue, but there's some light rust at the very tip, and a distinct "tongue" of rust that extends beyond where the over-the-hill hose ended...

... should I SAND this with wet-dry? If so, what GRIT?

Going lower into the system, using a mirror, here's a look at the backside of the WP bypass that wye's into the lower rad hose... looks like perhaps minute leaking has been goin' own?... looks a little "crusty" and lumpy... need to SMOOTH it out... safely.

Typically used a ToothBrushSize SoftBrassBrush (multipack from HarborFreight\Ebay) or SteelWool from the kitchen sink,
to shine up rusty hose barbs or smaller areas on the engine\vehicle, then lube\paint as needed.
BrassWire DrillAttachment to shine up larger pieces on the bench, like an old pump before I lube+bag+store it as a spare.

Yea I would just clean them with a wire brush or some Scotch Brite and call it a day. That type of corrosion is caused by small seeping leaks and not changing you're coolant enough. Coolant turns acidic over time and acid is bad mmmmmkay.

I blame Duh ChiComs for the "acids"... NOT the 13-year-old Prestone...

I dunno slang. Is that some kind of parasitic beetle?

ChiComs = Chinese Communists, i.e. MAO-ist scum who foisted COVID on the whole planet, aka present-day globo-political whipping boys for the whole planet... I used to only blame them for the evil shyt THEY did... now I blame them even for shyt *I* do, lol...

Correction: Coolant is not 13 years old, just the HOSES... coolant got flushed and changed 2012, and "half-changed" in 2017... still looks pretty good.

"Duh ChiComs"? My first thought was this is those damned old
ChicagoPhoneCompanies, now morphed into InternetServiceProviders,
ripping customers off like they've always done for the last 125+ years!
But you're in FL, so guess not.

I'm gonna go have some ramen...

Oh, I wonder if former 1990s Era Chi-Town ISP (now financial guru) Karl Denninger is among those you curseth?

PS: 5/8" nipples on heater core were pristine (hmmm...?), but the 2 at the engine end I cleaned up with alcohol-on-Scotchbrite (for the softer rubber residue) and a brass wire wheel on the Dremel, low-speed (7500rpm), for the more "calcified" stuff... LEAK-FREE so far with new hoses.

... the 2 quarter-inchers on the intake manifold were super cruddy, and got the same treatment, BUT... looks like they'll be retired-in-place. (Seems FoMoCo bribes after-market hose-makers to cut those "optional" side hoses just a wee bit short... soze NEXT time you'll spring a whopping $140 for the "real" thing... GRRRrrr...)
