I agree, Ford will sell Maverick Brat's as fast as they can build them. They are half the price of a Ridgeline, and almost as ugly. Folks don't really care about how ugly it is, just look at that Tesla truck.

They could be a LOT worse. Take for example some of the recent GM trucks. Hideous... and poor quality.

Personally I like the looks of the Maverick more than the new Ranger. I have always thought the front end looks too similar to a car, and the box sides are too tall. The Maverick has neither of those complaints present in my mind.

I do wish a regular cab was available, Id rather have a longer bed then more passenger capacity.

Then you want a "truck" not a Maverick,

Its a passenger "car"(unibody) with a bed instead of a trunk, and you sit up a bit higher like in an SUV but its not an SUV, its a Maverick

The grill and interior of the 2019 Ranger was one of the things that attracted us to the Ranger. A truck doesn't have to look like a shoe box, and the interior doesn't have to have a big flat slab of a dash.

Is the Maverick really a truck? Front wheel drive, optional AWD, no frame, 4-1/2 ft bed... It's no different than a Ridgeline.

Most truck folk have been saying for years that the Ridgeline isn't a truck. Not saying you have said that.. but it'll be interesting reading all the "Yeah, but....." hypocrisy.

I can say wether or not we think it qualifies as a truck, the dmv will qualify it as a truck. Just like the Baja.

Maverick owners will get boned with the higher cost to register because of it too, while giant SUVs that weigh twice as much roam the highways.

I can see the Maverick being a home owners vehicle for its ability to multi task. It has the room for the family and the bed to load things into but it's not for me. I need the 6' bed for what I do with my trucks and using the tailgate to hold weight is never a great idea. The thing reminds me the the older subaru Brat's, not sure those came in 4 door.

It's not just a Ranger thing either, I just don't really care for how a lot of new trucks sit so high in the rear and the bed sides are so tall. It's hard to put stuff in the back or take it out from the sides. Just MO but it looks stupid and reduces functionality. My old F250's box sides were about as tall as the ones on the new Ranger, and the F250 was on 33's!

I don't think a Maverick or Ridgeline fits some of the "truck" criteria but there are plenty that they do fit. They are trucks in my mind.

Agreed on the overall height of the bed rails. That could have easily been fixed with a different suspension style from the factory. But Ford knows the masses like the "Big Truck" look.

Maybe a flat bed is in your future?

The Maverick is aimed at the crowd that can’t afford a truck and often don’t need all that a truck offers. It’s a crossover that will get them most of the way there but not nuke their wallet in purchase cost and fuel mileage.

At one time, before I got into all that I’m involved in now and didn’t own a home, I would have considered one. Now, as a family hauler with some utility due to the bed, it might be considered but with two trucks currently in the fleet, it would be redundant. If I could talk the girlfriend in to a Bronco Sport, that would be an easier sale than a Maverick. But that is my situation. Not everyone is going to be in the same boat.

I’m glad that it appears they stepped away from that with the Maverick. Better rear visibility, easier bed access, and more convenient over all I think.

The Maverick's bed height seems like what I want. The Maverick's bed size is also definitely too small for me. 6ft is my absolute minimum useable bed length.

I love full sizer's 8ft beds, but they are now so illogically tall it's hard to use them. The Ranger should have been the right size, but it seems as tall as the F150 :\

It’s not that complicated. Ford has a room with all the discontinued vehicle names written on the floor. When it comes time to release a new vehicle, they let a chicken into the room. Whatever name the chicken poops on first is what they name the new vehicle.

All Ford does is trucks right now. Think of this as the "Focus" replacement.

Actually, the Focus was replaced by the EcoSport. And, for the record, Ford has:

• Trucks (Ranger, F-Series)
• SUVs (Expedition, Bronco)
• Crossovers (Escape, Explorer, EcoSport, Edge, Flex, Bronco Sport)
• Cars (Mustang, Fusion)
• Vans (E-Series, Transit, Transit Connect)
