I have a line on a 70k mile split bench out of a '91... but they are gray.

Any idea how hard it would be to dye them to go with my tan interior?

They have the black striped patch in them too.

Pretty easy id imagine. Remove the cover, soak it in some rit dye in a tote, remove, dry, install, done.

Rit dye works but wont "override" the base color. Going from grey to tan may be difficult, the grey will still come through. Ive tried to dye many things and there's just a limit to what you can do. I highly doubt you will ever get a good match.

You can dye white any color, you can die blue into purple, you can dye grey into black, yellow into green etc. Think of playing with crayons, you're mixing the colors not putting on a totally new color.

Fabric paint on the other hand will change the color completely but I don't think itll last.

Even if I end up more brown than tan I would be fine with it.

Wash them first, like take them off and put them in a HD washing machine or hand wash them good in the tub. Then dye them in HOT water. See how it looks, if you do it a few times it may work out to an acceptable color.

I wonder if you can bleach the color out before dying them? Like I said the less color there is to start, the better the dye works.

My wife suggested that, I thought I heard somewhere bleach is hard on fabric? :dntknw:

I haven't researched it farther though.

Sure it would...

Id go with seat covers, years ago I used to put seat covers on right off the bat to protect the seats, havent done that in a long time though. With using a color dye Id worry about transfer to clothing, maybe it wouldnt happen but Id still think its a possibility.
