1994 Ranger XLT 2.3L 5sp
Hi folks, I've been fighting this IAC since I got this Ranger on the road last summer. It runs fine, but the startup RPM is off the chain and it makes my teeth itch every time I start it cold. I tried aftermarket stuff, bought 2 boneyard OEM ones (one worked perfect for 8-10 months or so then went belly-up). So I got reading around on the internet to see if there was a suitable replacement for the elusive OEM ones. That led me to "AutoZone Premium" that another person said was the next best thing: The Hitachi brand that was sold under the AutoZone Premium part. So I gave them a call, it's unavailable.... figures. But the guy did a little digging for alternatives and found a different "Premium" option, and he said "well, we sell the Ford brand one". I thought no way, but the photo shows it clearly with the Ford branded on the body casting so I thought I'd take a gamble. Well, it showed up and it doesn't say Ford on it, but I think it used to and they ground it off of the casting. Anyway, I think I may have stumbled onto a source for some either NOS or possibly someone selling grey market unsanctioned genuine parts. Everything about the castings is identical, even in measurements with 2 exception... the "2" stamped inside of the valve throat intake has a couple of dots on it where the old one doesn't. The other difference is the crimps on the solenoid casing... the crimps look identical, but the OEM one has a single crimp and this one has 3. The fonts are all a perfect match which is usually the first indicator of chinese fakes, but this thing looks legit. I even checked the selenoid casing radius (top and bottom) with my gauges and its identical. I haven't installed it yet because I wanted to have it avail for photos... what do you guys think? Anyway, I wanted to share to get opinions and in case it's real because I know a lot of people have this same issue with the junky aftermarket ones. What are your opinions?
The AutoZone part# is TV267DG and here is the direct link: TV267DG
Edit: Actually, I was wrong about the crimped ring on the solenoid casing. It is also identical, looks like it was crimped with the exact same tool with the exact same spacing on the ring. They are even located in the same locations around the radius. I didn't have good light on it when I was looking before but I can clearly see it now. It also has the proper resistance across the terminals (9.5 ohms). The plastic connector terminal also has the same molding marks from the injectors and the mold release tool marks. I really do think these might be legit. I'll know more when I get it installed tomorrow.
