50,000 RPM wrangler...

Which begs the question.... how do you not notice these things? I mean good lord how strong was that RV's engine that they couldn't feel the resistance from the jeep being stuck in low gear? And how can you tow a trailer throwing sparks, missing a tire and not feel it let alone ever glance in your side mirror to see the carnage?

My brother had a guy come into the dealer he works at doing a humble brag how much power his super duty had pulling his camper. Said he was going down the highway and checked his mirror to see insulation blowing around behind him so he beat it over to the shoulder. He blew a tire and it had ripped a fourth of the wall out of his fifth wheel. Tire was pretty much gone by the time he noticed and pulled over.

The almighty 6.2 didn't even downshift...

I met a guy once doing the same, he either had a 2v V10 or a diesel. Waved at me happy as a lark leaving shreaded tire, plywood, siding and fiberglass insulation in his wake.

I’m reminded of the new RV owner who put the RV on cruise control and went to the bathroom. He sued the dealer and won, because the salesman said “set the cruise and go take a nap.” Lawyers are great.

This guy would have done better to flip it over and drag it that way.

& diagnosis? He didn’t notice the shrapnel and oil on his shoes when he got in? Anyone could make this mistake, but take it in for diagnosis? Probably thinks an alien got in while he was sleeping up front.

He should have lied and said that it happened while it was idling in a parking lot. Being a jeep its a completely believable story and he could have got it fixed under warranty...

I bet the people towing the jeep like just bought the thing and never towed it behind the RV so thy just thought. It was really heavy or something. And I guarantee they tried to put the tcase in neutral but locked it in low.
But like how could you not see the light on the dash. It's a brand new Jeep I know dang well it works unlike my 30yr old garbage.

Do the Rubicons still have manual shift transfer cases? :dunno:

A plausible scenario I could see happening if it is electronic shift transfer case (that for some reason has a neutral setting?) Would be if they got the thing in 4low first and then pushed the switch to neutral without putting the transmission in neutral and then just assumed that the switch did its job without actually looking at the indicator lights. Still extremely stupid but I could picture an average car owner doing that.

I've gotten many phone calls from people saying "hey my truck is stuck in 4 low can you fix it?) To which I reply "yea, put the transmission in neutral and try again".

Ok then whoever did that was a mind bogglingly massive moron...

A plausible scenario I could see is this guy is an accounting or legal giant with a brain the size of a pea, with money to burn, but the common sense in that brain makes that pea brain look like Jupiter!!

Yeah but so far @97RangerXLT has yet to claim responsibility...

Had a brother-in-law with a PhD who could not figure out how to operate a toilet plunger..... kid you not. I could see him doing this.

12 years in college, and he didn't grasp that shit goes downhill.....

That's a very charitable explanation. After dealing with people who drove RV's for decades, I think you're giving them too much credit.

I think people need to have a special license for one of those. And the giant camper trailers. Or if we're not gonna make that mandatory then just throw the license thing out and let natural selection have at it.

Depends on the state. Some of the monsters do require a class A commercial license. Some just a class C, some a class B, some its just a special RV endorsement and then some states just let you drive whatever the hell you want.

If it has a bed and a toilet usually you are free to go around here. No need for any special licensing or weigh station stops. One reason why they are adding sleeping quarters to enclosed trailers (aka toy haulers) and even livestock trailers for horse people.

Meanwhile a F-250 with an empty car trailer is in theory required to stop at weigh stations. And if you haul your buddy's lawn mower for a pop you are hauling for compensation.

A few years ago the DOT was pulling that card on antique tractor pullers. Pulling for the chance at a $5 trophy was akin to hauling for profit and thus they got raked over the coals for all the $$ they could shake out of them.
