What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Alaska has a worse problem with mosquitoes than Florida so I've heard. We have spray trucks, but we also have Florida Man and the skunk ape, so it evens out.
My Dad was stationed in Alaska when he was in the Army in the mid 60s. the running joke there in the summer was that they saw a plane come into the grass strip next to the base and they would have a fuel truck half way out to meet it before they realized it was a mosquito.

State bird of Minnesota... Worst I ever saw was in North Dakota though. US little kids and mom all waited in the car until dad got the tent up lol.

I got my redhead to agree to push the brake pedal when I bleed the brakes after the parts come in and I get it all together. I was shocked since she pretty much hates my blue-jean side and my red-neck toys.

I was actually able to convince my lady to help me put the bed back on yesterday after changing the fuel pump. Probably not gonna happen again.

Take 8 of these a day. No mosquito will ever come near you.

Yeah, nothing will come near you!

Yeah, nothing will come near you!

I'm OK with that...

It actually makes me smell like an italian hoagie with extra onions for some reason. Who doesn't love a good hoagie? :dunno:

It’s the sausage and pickle they worry about...

So whats going to happen to garden hose connections? Used to youd ask for either a female or male end, Im sure there are other “gender specific “ things, this was the first one that came to mind

Soooo, today I swapped the radiator and the thermostat in the ‘97 4.0. There was a crack in the plastic head of the radiator, and it never got hot, I assumed the former owner had removed the thermostat. When I opened it up, I found out the thermostat was just frozen open.

I was disappointed there were no gaskets with the new 190 thermostat. So I went to the right trash can in the shed of miracles and pulled out an oil-soaked electronics box from what I don’t know:

I traced out the head, and punched the bolt holes with a modified lamp nipple I had in my punch box. Then, I did a similar mod to a short piece of chain link fence post That I put in my punch box for next time.

Then I impregnated it with Prematex 2. The P2 was a little stiff. I’m disappointed the superglue cap I put on it years ago wasn’t a perfect seal.

Note the 79cent shoe box platform from Goodwill.

The thermostat still would have rattled around in the housing so I made a rubber gasket to keep it tight in place by slicing 1/8” off a radiator hose, also with the P2. Sorry no picture of that one.

It all went together perfectly, and I filled it with a combo of the used and some new antifreeze, being careful not to introduce any trash by using a special filter funnel constructed from a face cloth rag, a dollar store funnel, and a zip tie. Having the right tool always makes the job easy!

A lot of work just to get the heat working for 6-7 days a year...

Now they make a uni-stick and spray connector, you just have to use enough KY

I keep a roll of gasket material in my tool box for just such an occasion.

You could have just skipped the cardboard box and used RTV...

🤔 Hmmm, yes, that would work. But I’m ancient, stick to old school ways. I was raised & taught you never bolt metal on metal without a mechanical buffer, i.e., a gasket a’la @Uncle Gump. RTV would work, but personally, I don’t like to use “goo” too close to anything with motion. Also, my gray hair wannabe professor frustration with the advent of YouRube, I wanted to do a little show and tell for all y’all youngsters 😁

& Afterthought, the old (failed) thermostat was covered with goo. Now, I’m not saying it failed from poorly applied goo, it was obviously ancient....

Uhhhh........

I'd be worried that your funnel filter rag would make the antifreeze dirtier!!!!
