I recently did some work to my '93 xlt ranger. Replaced a dead starter, and damaged ignition lock cylinder.

When I turn the headlights on the chime goes off. Either hi/low beam doesn't matter.

The turn signal is also acting up. When i turn it on it just stays on and doesn't blink unless I manually move the switch.

I'm thinking I must have pulled something apart in the steering column when took the cowling off. It was a chore and a half.

The relays and fuses seem to be fine... What am I missing here.

Probably not related, but the dome light is always on. I just took the bulb out. Probably should be fixed while I'm at it. Didn't test since the new cylinder install...

The chime should go when the headlights are on and the driver door is open, so most likely it thinks the door is open, and the dome light will stay on for the same reason. Could be an open circuit in the column or under the dash or in the left kick panel, but I would start tracing that circuit.

Dome light- make sure that the dome light is not turned at the headlight switch; rotate the knob clockwise to turn the dome off.

Warning chime- there's an electrical contact in the key cylinder that grounds with a key in the switch. Make sure that you didn't bend this contact, grounding it. Key-in-switch circuit should only show ground when a key is in the switch.

Turn signals could be a ground that you pulled loose, or something at the combination switch (turn signal switch) that got jacked when you wrestled with the cover. Look for backed out wires on the connectors.

With an XLT, you may have a tilt column. I've found that adjusting the steering angle helps when pulling and installing the trim covers. With a straight column, you just gotta take your time and finesse the covers off.

Sounds like RobbieD might have civered all the bases here. You've got somwthing pulled loose in the column. Check that all the connectors are Completely plugged together. I may be able to get pictures later if you need something specufic. I have a complete 93 steering column in a vice in my garage right now. I also have the wiring diagrams book.
