Yes they said masks work. They also contradict themselves, because in the past the CDC has concluded that masks are NOT effective for preventing the transmission of the flu virus, which is twice as large as a corona virus. So which is right? I don't know.

The only way to get to the bottom of it is to have a controlled trial, which would probably be considered unethical. So we're left with inferences and studies of known populations.

The size of the virus doesn't matter, the virus exits your body almost entirely through saliva and mucus droplets which can be stopped even by non medical grade face coverings. Stop the droplets, stop the virus.

Herd immunity sounds great but it occurs after the most susceptible have died. A vaccine will be the key to controlling Covid IF we can get people to take it. I was talking to a (very liberal) friend last week, after she said she wouldn't take a covid vaccine I said that was how we eradicated small pox. She then told me that the small pox vaccine created AIDS? WTF? We're close to the same age and were both vaccinated against small pox and neither has AIDS. Neither of use is an IV drug user or male homosexual, either. People die every year from the flu and some people won't get vaccinated because it isn't 100% effective. If it's even 40% effective it's worth it, if you had a 40% chance of winning the lottery wouldn't you buy a ticket?

Walt, that theory came up because monkeys were used to create antibodies for polio vaccines, and simian AIDS is not that different from human AIDS. Whether it could every be conclusively proven, I doubt anyone will ever know. AIDS is a relatively modern disease.

But that is why some people believe that. I'm not saying it is true or false. I have no idea.

Science is GOOD. Science uses facts to arrive at a conclusion.
Injecting bleach into body is BAD. Idea brought up by crackpot who does not believe in science.

I'm waiting for it to be measured, not inferred. Two different things.

See the CDC journal article concluding that masks do not help with flu transmission, and then you tell me which is right???????

Too late for more "testing" on masks, types of masks, material of masks. Masks WORK.
You live in a state that has the highest ### of infections, growing daily. Your state is a poster child for "How to distribute a killer virus" !!!

Some of the shed viruses are aerosolized (meaning they don't have to be attached to a water droplet). This has been studied, too, in the context of flu transmission. Again..... I'd really like to see this stuff measured, not guessed at.

I do when I'm required to, whether it does anything or not.

Frankly.... if we had the least bit of sense in this country, we'd test EVERYONE for antibodies. Those who show the presence of antibodies, would be exempt from all this nonsense.

Unfortunately medicine in this country is mostly predicated around waiting for disaster to strike, then over-reacting in an expensive way. Fix that and our average life expectancy would be greater than Cuba's.

Masks are more like a catalytic converter (actually more like a spark arrester on a small engine if you are familiar with that)

It doesn’t filter well coming in, it keeps stuff contained from going out.

Wearing a mask takes virtually no effort at all. It’s a low cost, low effort measure with no feasible alternative.
