My 1976 Honda XL-350 has a spark arrester from the factory...

Forest fires are a natural thing, if they happened on nature's timetable we wouldn't have these monsters, or these strange bugs that wipe out vast areas of trees.

The train tracks over the hill or the hiway down the valley where the train or 18 wheeler is melting it's brakes is much more likely to cause a fire than a quad or motorcycle (straight pipe Harleys excluded). What's next steel toe boots or cell phones cause forest fires. Her damned bike could cause sparks too.

I believe 9/10 wildfire are set by humans, but I bet maybe .001% is cause by ATVs with spark arrestors. I'm guessing 99% are cause by cigs and unattended fires.

You guys are right cigarette's are the most likely cause for forest fires. for example, i was hiking up in the seirra's acouple years ago and someone had droped a cigar on the ground and when i arrived at the camping spot, they were gone and a big pile of smoldering pine needles was growing by the minute, its careless people who cause fires, not dirt bikers. Needless to say there would have been a fire in that forest if we didnt put it out. dumb people,

I love that "lightning starts a bunch of them too" When lighning starts more forest fires than something they make a PSA for.... theres a problem. I've never had a spark arrestor on my bikes since they're all "race bikes" and not once in my 15 years of riding have i seen a single spark come out of the pipe.... this is totally bogus. letter sent!

i am a new york state certified interior firefighter and even i hate the forest fire prevention shit , i live to fight fired and this stuff is just bullshit , i love riding my quad and my bike , but this is bullshit , i was just reading in National Geographic that because of fire prevention the amount of ready fuel has grown , the whole purpose of a forest fire in nature is cleansing , and when we prevent that the amount of fuel just grows , i read how in arizona in one spot in the late 1800's threre were 50 trees for every like 2.5 acres , now in that same space there is 1700 , and the other problem is people that live along the edge of the woods , the government wants to protect them , i saw let the house burn , they want to live in an area where there is wildfires , it is their choice , just like people that build houses on hill known for mudslides , or in earthquake prone areas , their choice so why should we protect their stupidity , it is called darwinism , survival of the fittest , in this case the smartest , sorry but i just had to rant

My Gas Gas doesn't have a spark arrestor factory, got bitched at by a cop one day, he told me anything in the exhaust path will work, I drilled a hole in the tip and ran a screw across the exhaust path, like that will actually stop anything I bet less than 1% of wild fires are caused by lack of spark arrestor. One time my dad set some tall grass on fire when he parked his bike, it was the hot headpipe that lit it, why don't they do something about those?

My XR had a spark arrestor from the factory & I never took it off. I bought an FMF arrestor for my WR.

and no, people barley set forest fires, unless its arson, it rarley happens
most forest fires are started by lightning
i know a couple forestry fire fighters and
im takeing the forestry test as soon as i turn 18, mostly so i can cruse the trails in my town but its also a good thing to do.
