Do i need LDS friction additive in my '98 7.5" rearend?

Getting ready to change out the rear diff. fluid and was wondering if i need to put in the friction modifier along with the gear oil? It is a '98 ranger XL 2.5L with 5 speed tranny. Thanks

does it have a limited slip, doubt it for an XL, just look at the tag on the rear axle, if it says something like 3 73 then NO if it says 3L73 then yes. so if a L is inbetween the gear ration then yes, if its not then No

No, you don't NEED friction modifier in a L/S diff. It may chatter around corners but won't explode although I swear mine feels like a tooth is missing in a side gear sometimes !! LOL !!

Look at the tag on your drivers door, under axle if you have a letter and a number you need friction modifier if you want the L/S to work properly. Bent Bolt is just using some thick Alberta Tarsands crude in his diff.

Kona, we've been over this before. It doesn't need FM, the used clutches aren't going to chatter, I guarantee you. However new clutches would chatter if not soaked in FM before installation. FM is to keep soccer moms from bitching. It WILL work better without FM.
