Not sure why they apply a former car name to a truck....courier would make more sense...but eh.
What do you mean? It worked so well for the Chrysler Aspen.

The maverick was a relativly well known, successful car though....And the Ranger.
Was originally a model of Edsel...
The edsel not so much
Minus the explosionsProbably not so much today. Edsel is the standard by which all failures were measured. "Maverick? That is like a Pinto right?"

Nope. Not like a Pinto. Maverick was replaced by the Fairmont, which was replaced by the Tempo, which was replaced by the Contour, which was replaced by the Focus. The Pinto was replaced by the Escort. For the record, the Tempo and the Escort were on the same platform, but the Tempo was somewhat larger (but not by a whole lot).

I know but most people don’t really care anymore.

Falcon evolved into the Pinto, Pinto into the Escort, the Escort became the focus.
Maverick evolved into the fairmont/grenada. The line then split in 82 with the fairmont becoming the midsized LTD (rougbly taking the msrket segment of the 77-79 LTD II which evolved into the 80-82 Tbird,) and the grenada roughly being replaced by the tempo/topaz.
The midsized LTD would evolve into the taurus in 86, The tempo/topaz evolved into the contour/mystique. Both of which went extinct.
The FWD counterparts had 0 DNA of their predicessors besides taking its place in the market segment.
