It's a door chime, I have one in my tool box to use as a continuity tester for intermittent opens.

That's a great guess... seems I use to have one of those too.

Wonder maybe now since you said that... it might plug into the ALDL on OBD1 stuff for audible code retrieval.

You might be able to do that, the old STAR tester could be set to beep when it read out the codes. Only 1 tech set it to beep and the noise drove everyone else nuts.

When I started at the garage in 1975 I was the only guy with an air ratchet and everybody complained about the noise. Until I started loaning it to them and they all bought them.

Does it seem like those guys are normally named Rick or is it just a coincidence? You know, that way you can call him Prick or Dick instead of Rick.

I'm not saying they weren't a time saver... but in the 80's most had moved on to rechargeable drills for many tasks. I remember one trim guy that would change complete interiors with an air rachet... and everything else he did. Didn't help my two stalls were next to him.

You probably wouldn't have liked my air chisel,either. Nobody bought electric stuff in the 70's.

Couldn't live without one... in fact I punched out spring hanger rivets a week or two ago with my 80's Ingersoll... glad I bought a good one. I think my ears rang for a day or two afterwards.

Well now you guys have me wondering, I figured it was an audible OBD1 reader that beeped instead of the light blinking thing.

There is a number on it, I will check.

I found it in a truck's glovebox in the JY, I don't have anything OBD1 to try it on.
