From corona virus to helpful kissing teddy bears.... to anchovies. This thread has been all over the place.

Lets reel this thing in a bit and look at these SBA PPP loans.

My company was in on this the very minute the flood gates opened... following the process... I was eligible for $35k. It was based on 10 weeks of payroll expenses. My business got ZERO. They ran out of money.

Seems there were many publicly traded companies with sizeable Net worth that weren't even eligible to begin with. They jumped in and broke the program before it could even help the small business it was intended for. These businesses had their own funding but jumped in on all of it and somehow got sent to the front of the handout line and walked away with the lions share of the SBA dollars.

So when your favorite little breakfast place... small retail store.... or any other small business that was forced to close it's doors doesn't reopen.... you can blame a bunch of large greed driven corporations.

I first heard of this on the news.... it mentioned three restaurant chains (publicly traded) that had collected large funding from this SBA program. Ruth Criss Steakhouse - $20 million... Potbelly - $12 million and Shake Shack - 10 Million. Of those three... Shake Shack is returning the money because they had dollars from another program. Potbelly.... they're keeping it... to "pay our employees". Ruth Criss... declined to comment.

This should all be public record and I'm going to find out these large corporations and I will never spend another dollar with anyone of them. The money that Potbelly walked away with would have funded over 4,100 businesses the size of my company. Remember... it's your tax dollars they took. This article list many but I'm sure it isn't the complete list. I haven't even heard of most of these companies but I'm sure as time goes by we will find more that we do know...

It was worth a shot to go for it, but I’m afraid there was never any doubt about how it would go in general. Everyone talks about all the divisions in this country, except for the main one: class. The rich will take care of their own, and all the rest is just acting and posing. It doesn’t matter what party or politician it is, not one of them has the interests of the nation at heart. It’s only about power, which means taking care of others with power. Individual small business owners don’t count.

This was an interesting bit of news I watched today...

Im not really a fan of Anderson Cooper but this interview he did with the mayor of Las Vegas is absolutely hysterical. I can't find a link to the video but in a nutshell she demands to have Las Vegas re-opened. When asked the simple question of what her plan was to make sure its safe, she said "That's not my job". And then it just gets dumber and dumber from there...

If that lady was the mayor of my town I would flee...

When this all started, I can’t recall who said it but someone said “Remember, when this is all over, if nothing happened... That was the point.”

I see both sides of this. Anderson starts baiting her from the beginning. He keeps trying to drive the conversation a different way with a different emphasis.

At one point she's trying to talk about casino workers that don't have jobs to feed their kids, and he keeps trying to make it about casino owners. He reminds me of some lawyers I've seen questioning witnesses.

We always claim to be a superior nation, but we seem to have failed miserably at controlling this.

I think what you're missing here is that the funds went to businesses that weren't even eligible. They should have never been in the pool to be considered for these loans. Also it was really the SBA lenders that were given these dollars to fulfill the loans that seemed to have showed favoritism to their biggest customers. This entire process smells to high heavens... it didn't go unnoticed and the chips are falling. It was an epic failure and there needs to be some accountability.

They just approved the second round of funding for this program on Tuesday. I seen our status move up a notch in the process when that happened. We have our fingers crossed that it goes through this time. Because if it doesn't... it's gonna get real dicey here in the next couple of weeks for our business. Even if the $35k loan hits my bank account... it is a small portion of the losses we will have to overcome to stay in business. It will however take a bit of the edge off of the situation and I can keep my employees paid for the following 8 weeks... pay last months rent and electric bill. The rest of the bills will have to be paid when the dollars start flowing through the doors... but without putting people back to work.... they aren't coming back.
