Does the line toward the end discussing origin mean what I think it means?

Can anybody in the world read that gobbledygook and understand more than 5 words of it??? That looks like it was typed by a comittee of apes.

Something about ancient origin??

A good but of it, yes. Just got the full paper. Tissue culture guy, so some of it translates from plant cell lol. Give me time to read.

It's worth noting that the chemrxiv site is for pre published papers. It's not stuff that's been through a peer review process for fact checking.

Watch this stuff. This is a new approach in science these days. This is a "preprint" meaning it has not gone through peer review and could be complete crap. Most of this stuff is okay and it's just people trying to stake a claim on a finding but there is no ... And @fastpakr beat me to it...

Probably not - that’s a different rabbit hole I probably won’t post a link to.

Information from this paper is presently circulating on right wing sites in support of Trump, but without attribution because it’s a Chinese paper. Meanwhile the left is busy trashing Hydroxychloroquine because Orange Man Bad (that it’s old, cheap and unpatentable can’t have anything to do with it, nah). Even a global pandemic won’t be enough to get people to stop grinding axes and make common cause.

The main point was that the virus attacks hemoglobin and prevents the blood from transporting oxygen, damaging the whole body. It’s why ventilators don’t work well. And why maybe Hydroxychloroquine might work.

If people find out that a cheap drug might gave saved their loved ones and perhaps their jobs/livelihoods, will there be enough lamp posts?

I know hydroxychloroquine is being used at many places.

On this issue I take no political bias but have seen no one of scientific or medical background yet to say this drug is effective except for random uncredited sources. I get where you're coming from, if it can work why not try it but even in a crisis situation throwing untested meds at people can be more dangerous than the problem you're trying to solve. I like to hope at least that the U.S medical research community is not swayed by political influence and is doing the appropriate testing on the malaria drugs as well as others as fast as possible to give the people a solid factual answer and not speculation. I also hope an old cheap readily available drug is a potential answer to this problem. Hope is not an easy thing to have these days though...

Actually the testing is being done by them using it since there is nothing to lose. There are special exemption for off label drug use in this case. This malaria drug is not untested or dangerous as it is used very frequently for proven targets. It's dangerous when people try to self medicate with no concept of pharmacology.

Fun fact: Viagra was originally designed as a blood pressure medication but they soon found out it was better at giving people boners so they switched its marketing because boners are worth more money. Now prescribing it for high blood pressure is considered off label use... unless you have high blood pressure and want a boner I guess?

I think the common consensus is that covid 19 reproduces in the cells that line the lungs
The incubation period averages 5.1days at this time, so fairly long before the "host" knows they are infected, but can go as long as 14days, some reports of 20days
Incubation period for "common flu" is 2 days

But in any case the virus enters though a "host's" nose or mouth(eye is possible), and it infects a lung cell which makes thousands of more copys of the virus before the cell dies
And this is repeated thousands of more times
When the "host" coughs or sneezes or "speaks moistly"(LOL), thousand of these newly made viruses are expelled from the lungs onto surfaces or to other potential "hosts"
So virus targets lungs as a means to an end, to spread itself faster

The long delay before a "host" has any symptoms is why it can spread so fast
And because many "hosts" have mild symptoms, so they might not "think" they have Covid 19, there are lots of other things that can cause similar symptoms going around this time of year

The dead cells in the lungs cause fluid build up and a thickening of the walls in the lungs which means the exchange of oxygen for carbon dioxide is slowed down, and this virus spreads easily around the lungs
In some "hosts" that leads to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and that's usually what kills the "host"
The virus doesn't want the "host" to die, it just wants to make more viruses

I just found out its now illegal to enter a grocery store in NJ without a face mask...

I've been diligent about using hand sanitizer after going shopping especially after touching the credit card machine but I haven't gone into facemask mode yet because I can scoot through the grocery store without coming within 10 feet of anyone and I use the self checkout line. My beard kinda makes a face mask idiotic but whatever. My friends wife said she saw them actually telling people without masks to get lost today.

Also, went to home depot today and they had a section of the parking lot marked off with squares. They were not letting more than a certain number of people into the store at once and you had to stand in line in the little squares. It reminded me of a 80's movie where people were trying to get into a super secret night club.

On some good news? The sites I've been keeping an eye on have been showing the levels of new cases per day in NJ and the U.S in general have seemed to leveled off if not slowly start dropping. Total cases are still rising obciously but the spread itself seems to have reached its peak potential. Its not much but its something...

My mom and dad have gotten so paranoid they wont open their mail or packages until they sit outside for a day. They are very high risk so I don't blame them. I convinced my mom to start working from home and have been doing their shopping so they are essentially fully quarantined now, which has eased my anxiety slightly. I know I can last alone in my dungeon but knowing they were still at risk going out and about was driving me nuts.

The way I read that report is that covid19's origin is from vampires.

There is an 8pm curfew here. Obviously the government knows it's most deadly at night... :secret:
