Coronavirus

Its the FLU..............it WILL come and then it will go, every year

Colds are different, and called "colds" because they routinely spread when the weather is cold, in the Northern Hemisphere, because people move inside and are in closer contact so it spreads easier from person to person
Flu spreads the same way
You can not get a cold or the flu because you got a "chill", usually the chill feeling is because you are already sick and have a fever, lol

Yeah, flu and cold season kinda coincides with being cooped up around others. Once the warm weather hits a lot of the crap dies out for the most part as people can get out more and not be so confined with other people. I have had colds in the summer before it but isn't like now (mainly about a month ago) when EVERYBODY either had a cold or some strain of the flu.

Half my family had some strain of the flu there for awhile, my wife had influenza B, our infant had RSV (both at the same time, it was fun to be in our house) and somehow I sneaked out of it with only a cough.

A friend of mine's wife was a 1st grade teacher for 5 or so years and he said every Sept when school started their family would start the "cold season"
Younger kids get/catch everything and in kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades the teachers usually have to help, i.e. wiping noses so.............
He said when she started teaching older grades the "cold season" stopped, well went to normal once in awhile colds

Young children are the worst germ factories out there. No idea about hygiene and covering their mouth during a cough or sneeze.

Ironically, kids seems to more or less shrug off this particular virus:

That doesn't mean that they can't be carriers, but it's interesting that they seem to be infected at lower rates, and those infected have less extreme symptoms.

So I read an article and had it confirmed on another forum that the covid19 virus has an outer lining that is composed of fat. Washing with regular old soap and water will kill the virus because soap dissolves fat. No need for alcohol based sanitizer unless you're not near water.

Sounds about right... I’m pretty sure the entire coronavirus family are all envelope viruses.

Yes, Coronaviruses have a membrane composed of lipids called an envelope. The best thing about soap is that it actually washed stuff away. Hand sanitizers rely on alcohol induced damage but require some contact time to work on tough "bugs". The Coronavirus envelope will be destroyed by hand sanitizers too but require (I have heard) over 60% "alcohol" to be thoroughly destroyed. Washing is way better since the detergent and the washing away is much more thorough of an approach.

I'm really curious how someone in a Washington nursing home got Coronavirus when the haven't traveled, or had contact with someone with the virus.

The unknown is uusually scary. Everyone wants answers but this thing is "novel" and many aspects of it's transmissibility are still unknown. People study these things for years and still wonder what the heck is going on. It's from the Coronavirus family but other members are pretty weird too. For all we know there could be thousands of asymptomatic carriers out there and without symptoms they'll never be discovered. Seems like the potency of this thing is super variable. One exposure of someone compromised may show the worse symptoms of the virus but not be representative of what it really is.

It's a bad strain of the flu and the flu kills thousands every year but I think it's getting blown out of proportion. People with weakened immune systems and other health concerns are more susceptible to any disease. If it gets more people to wash their hands that will be a good thing. I used to road test dozens of vehicles every week and it got so I would drive them bare handed even in sub zero weather because it was easier to scrub my hands than clean my gloves. I hated that it would make a ripping noise when I let go of their sticky steering wheels.

The fundamental issue is that our health care systems will be quickly overwhelmed. Like every other institution of our society it's a hollowed out shell re-purposed as a money making scheme, and things like spare capacity of beds, supplies, equipment and staff are bad for profits. This is the purpose of quarantines and such - to slow down the initial spike in cases and keep the hospital system from being overwhelmed. Given how little spare capacity there is this will likely be hopeless.

Also they cannot discuss useful, practical things like what kinds of supplements and non-patented medicines are helpful or how to take care of yourself at home for cases that are milder, because we cannot have people begin to think about treating themselves or taking responsibility for their own health - think of the impacts to profits if the population began to think like that!

There were a lot of real, useful things that a government that cared about its people could have done. Simply giving frank, factual information on what was coming and what to expect would have helped, but instead nothing at all was done. So now we have pointless panic and the virus is already moving through all regions. Just another example of the completely dysfunctional system with which we're stuck.

It seems like everyone that is found to have this here in the U.S. is in their 50's.
