Im having a hard time deciding on gearing. Im running a 351w/c6 combo and since I'm on a b2 frame i have no room to do a doubler or dual tcase setup. I see mostly trails, logs, mud and some rocks. Would like to still do highway speeds so can't go too low. Running a Dana 50 and sterling 10.5 with 38.5 boggers but planning on buying 40s and switching back and forth. Thoughts?

With tires that big, I'd recommend 4.88 or 5.13. based on how my truck runs with 35's, I voted for the 5.13 gears. I know the 351 has a lot more power and low end torque than my 3.0l. But your still talking about big tires. The fact that you mentioned the idea of a doubler tells me you want low speed crawling control. So put the gear reduction in your axles and have fun.

Yeah, with 38 Being the small ones... 488 with a c6 are close to the sweetspot.

I dont know how the engine is built and tuned. If it's a solid 400 # and HP build 456 will be fine too.

A stock 351 will want more gear.

5.13's no question. I'm running 37's with 5.13's and it does everything perfect.

Are you running a higher than or lower than 300 HP 351 and a c6?

5.13's for sure. Just suck it up and drive slow on the highway.

Those of you saying 5.13, remember the C6 has no overdrive (or lockup converter for that matter).

I'm thinking 4.88 as well, but I'll admit I've not run that particular combo.

Pffffft how often do you really NEED to drive over 40mph?

If you plan to keep it road legal, then 4.88. If not, then 5.13. But I'm not as experienced as others on this board, so take that with a grain of salt.
