Northern aluminum raditator.how well do they work?

thannx for the heads up.i changed 1 on my 87 a few mths ago and i saw what u r talking about.its supposed to swivel freely correct?

what power steering fluid did u use when u used your thunderbird pump in your truck?i know the 80s rangers use type F fluid and i think the sn95 use mercon 5 trans fluid.

I use what is recommended for the 92 Thunderbird pump. The Ranger steering gearbox doesn't seem to mind. I honestly forget what fluid it is right now though.

i m assuming it wouldn't hurt for either 1.i was going to use type f because thats what i have currently on the shelf.

The Ford pumps can be sensitive to the wrong types of fluids. A TON of people have serious problems with Ford power steering pumps whining like crazy. Louder than the vehicle's exhaust, etc..

really!so probably use what pump recommneds not the box then?i would think it would be the other way around

The steering gearbox is just a very low speed gearbox. It shouldn't be nearly as sensitive to fluid/lubricant differences as a higher speed power steering pump will be.

.good to know.thanx again.

I've been using the Northern V8 conversion radiator since December of 2018 & it fits & works great. The Northern fits perfectly in the front supports. A small 14" 1,650 cfm electric fan kept the temperature between 185-195 degrees this summer even on 98 degree days with a 185 degree thermostat & temp switch. If the temperature was under 90 degrees outside my engine would run around 180-185. I may upgrade to a 16" fan, but haven't had any cooling issues so far.

It has the same mounts as the one I posted that's made by Superior.

Those radiators get used in allot of trucks....only thing I have seen is bigger trucks that get used hard run warm off road and on the freeway hauling ass.

The 90 up ranger hose should work with the mustang and t bird fead...they are 16 mm sor type 3 iirc and the ranger is just 16 mm sor....worked for me......Otherwise cut and flare the box end....I do that too running gm pumps....1/2 in inverted flare on that style Ford box power side.

The earlier ranger hose has a 5/8 o ring....you can install the early pump in the sn bracket to keep it all old school.

i was thinking about cutting flare off both hoses and reflare and switch fittings from sn95 and put it on my 87 ranger.last resort.i was also looking into pump adapters.i think mustangs pump inlet is 16mmx1.5 and my ranger is 5/8x18.your right about the 5/8s oring.i was torn on which radiator to use the superior one or the northern.was waiting for someone to say northern radiator was a good 1 and save myself 35 bucks.but i pulled the trigger on the superior one already.bird76s looks like it fit good.put on a big electric fan and c what happens.

so your saying 80s ranger pumps will bolt up to an sn95 power steering bracket?

did those fan mounts come with the fan?or did u make those?

I made them with some angle aluminum from Tractor Supply & then polished them.
