Towing/hauling with an E350?

I've pulled a 17' trailer loaded with steel awning frames (3 to 4,000 lbs. plus trailer weight) over 100 miles in one direction several times, in a reg. length, loaded with tools, E350 5.4, sometimes you forget it was towing anything.
the tow button was broke off, you couldn't turn off OD, so it would downshift from time to time but other than that, no problem.

I have an '07 F250 with the V10, 5 speed auto and 4.10 gears. I regularly haul a slide in camper and a trailer that weighs 7-8000lbs behind that. It's sure not a diesel but it does alright and I'm way more than happy with it. If I had to replace it, a van would be high up on my list but I sure wouldn't get one with a 5.4... it won't make much better mileage than the V10 and has a lot less power.

Sounds like you need to find a wrecked V10 powered E series motorhome and build your own hauler ?

Or Uhaul. It did cross my mind but i dont know if id use it enough for a custom build.

Friends of ours had an E350 10 passenger with 460 for combination tow vehicle and day care hauling .

The good news, tow 2 horses at highway speeds @ 10mpg .

The bad news, drive empty locally @ 10mpg .

My current F250 has a 460. Itll get 12-13 runnin around empty at 55, but if you put it on the freeway, hitched to my camper, runnin 65 with the O/D off and AC on...youre down to about 8

My 77 f250/460 gets about the same numbers....but with Canadian gallons. That means about 20% less than rusty.

You should be getting 20% more than Rusty. Real (Imperial) gallons are bigger than those fake US gallons.

1 real gallon =4.25 (or is it 4.5?) liters
1 fake gallon = 3.75 liters.

You *should* be able to go 20% farther on our real gallons, so you *should* get 20% better gas mileage.

There was a discussion about this awhile back. My understanding is that your government of the time wanted more money. I think fluid imports were taxed by the gallon.So they made the gallon smaller by 20% so that there was more per barrel and so were able to collect more money. That also means that your gov messed with the original size gallon of the time; imperial. There are other theories of course but mine makes the most sense (of course...lol).
