y-pipe flange adapter

I know this forum can or will not condone eliminating catalytic converters and I accept that. But if we could talk about a hypothetical situation, (wink, wink) does anyone know a source from which to buy a flange with short piece of pipe that would adapt from the Y-pipe flange to a nice, easy-to-work-with round pipe? Or would that have to be custom made? You know, just in case someone wanted to do their own exhaust from that point back.

Hypothetically...i may have searched for said part and came up empty handed. You would have to make your own. But the gasket is cheap and a good template.

I made my own. I'll even admit I did it to run without a cat. I bought the truck for the engine, but it had no exhaust, I wasn't spending the money on a cat just to drive it a few hundred miles to make sure the engine was good.

Anyway, what I did was get a piece of weld plate at Loweds and a piece of pipe the size I wanted to use. Then I traced out the flange gasket, including holes, on the weld plate, cut the shape out and drilled the bolt holes. Then I welded the pipe to the plate as centered as I could get it. Then I used a couple more pieces of weld plate cut to fit around the pipe tightly to cover the rest of the hole from the gasket and welded it all up tight.

Before anyone says anything about this being used for cat deleting, it can also be used to make a test pipe, or to run a universal cat with round ends.

Yeah. Yeah. That's what I want to do. ahem.

I may have stumbled on another way. I might cut the existing pipe close to the cat. That will leave me with an oval pipe. I found a 2-1 transition pipe that I should be able to cut at the right oval size to weld on. Then I'l have round pipe to work with.

Thanks for the other ideas. Not sure which one I'll use.

I am using my "test pipe" right now, which is that adapter I made with a 25" glass pack, and then another 28" glass pack because my cat melted down and I am still saving up for a new one. It actually sounds really nice.

I've done this multiple times in order to run a universal cat with round ends.

The way I recommend is to buy a 3"-2.25" adapter tube from Autozone and compress the 3" side in a vise until it is oval, and then weld it to the oval pipe after removal of the cat and voila, you have a flange with a round pipe now. I'll be doing this in a week or two on my 4.0 exhaust, and I'll upload a pic.

Here's some crappy pics of mine. I used a 3" - 2.5" adapter and made the 3" side an oval and welded it on. The cat is welded to the 2.5" circular side(not pictured)
