ranger gas mileage

looking into getting a 92 ranger std cab std box, 2.3L A4ld

real rough guess whats the generic mileage city country driving?

My current DD EX is getting 12-14 if i'm lucky

Somewhere around 20-25 mpg city. My 96' 2.3l 5-speed gets me 22-23mpg city and thats with the A/C on constantly.

Yeah, that's not the norm for a 2.3. My 4.0 SOHC automatic 4x4 gets around 18 mpg. I would think a 2.3 manual 2wd could do a little better.

It can, just depends on how fast you need to get from point A to point B.

On one travel, I got over 500miles before E. Which equals around to 27mpg.

The auto sucks the life out of the 4 banger. My mom owned a 96 B2300 auto from the time it was brand new till about a 1 year ago. That thing NEVER got better than 18 MPG during the entire time we owned it. Around town it averaged 12-14 MPG and about 14-16MPG on the freeway. It was a fawkin gutless pig. Grades on the freeway were a constant battle between 2nd and 3rd gear. OD was only used on completely flat ground/down hill. It was frustrating to drive. I wouldn't even consider owning one that was an automatic. I have driven plenty with speeds though and would definately own one of those. The difference is night and day.

they don't get as good as mileage as they should basically. Everyone I know who had one couldn't get better than 20-21 in normal country road driving. Hell I got that with my 3.0l stick..and got 19-20 with my 4.0 stick. Its probably because you have to flog them to get anywhere.

I'm getting 23 mpg right now with my 95 2.3. i cant imagine one of these in front of an auto. That would be awful. Stick shift aint too bad. just gotta downshift for them big hills.

I drive my Ranger as light as possible and with 155,xxx miles its still gettin about 25mpg highway and about 20-21mpg in town. By light I mean keepin the rpms at 3,000 or less, shifting out of gear into neutral when going down hills and hittin 5th gear at 45 mph on flat roads.

I'm getting 24-26 in my '97 2.3 5spd. Just taking it easy with mixed 70/30 hwy/city. No A/C.

I purchased an 08 XL Supercab with the 2.3L 4 with the automatic overdrive transmision. My best mileage in town has been 23mpg and on the highway loaded (with food and drink for 17 guys for 5 days ) 25.6, and unloaded on the way back 28.2. Thats driving the speed limit in my area which is 55/60 mph.

heres what will become the new DD lol, brought it home today.

1992 Ranger std cab/box 2.3L Auto 7.5" rear axle with 4.10 250,ooo on the clock

The 3-4 shift solenoid and torque convertor lock-up solenoids are bad, they are shorted out and pop the EEC fuse. They are unplugged right now so the truck is somewhat driveable, but just need to drop the pan and swap them out with some LKQ specials:sonicjay:

As Red88xlt said I have a 94 Longbed xlt, 2.3, 2wd ,5spd,3.45 7.5 & my best highway trip was 31.4 mpg & that was with 45 psi in all tires ,slow starts & into 5th between 35-40,into neutral when coasting,triing to stay off the brake as much as possable & drafting semitrailers when the chance is available.

I also have a 94 Geo Metro & my best tank on a cross country trip in 2004 was 63 mpg,but my average was 48 highway
