Is it the clutch ? or the gear it self ? like 90 percent of the time it grids even when im stopped. any thoughts ?

Most likely the trans syncros are worn, indicating a rebuild. As far as the clutch, where does it start to grab, on the top, or on the floor?

Reverse is a non-synchronized gear on a lot of 80s transmissions. As such you should be at a complete stop before shifting into reverse. Try popping the shifter into 2nd gear for a second after you come to a complete stop. It will stop all the rolling gears and should keep it from grinding.

Thanks for correcting me, I was thinking of first gear for some reason...

Just for grins, I would check the fluid level.

I had that same issue on my FM145. One of the guys at work told me that since reverse is non-synchronized, and when you come to a stop in neutral in the counter shaft keeps spinning. If you try to go into reverse while it is still spinning it grinds. If you pop it in another gear first it stops the counter shaft and then you don't get the grind.

As soon as I read your first post, that's the same thought that I had, lol
