Building a rally car. Opinions wanted.

Way to not tell me about this thread Mike, I found the only picture I have of the car haha

I'm thinking the inline-4 would be a better fit in the Chevette engine bay, but I haven't looked at one in years and years.

The third option is basically all the guts out of an '89 Mustang 2.3L.

Horsepower TV recently built a 268 horsepower 2.3L that ran a carb and no forced induction. There's a lot of power to be had in those little motors. If you don't want to invest a lot in building a motor, than the V6 would probably be the better path.

Is that a Pontiac T1000?

So how big of a motor can you get in a Chevette:

How they build them in the south:

How they build them in the midwest:

You sure about that? I think both of those are from the south. I think I saw the lower one at the mud bog last week.

How about using a 4.3 V6 and manual Transmission out of a early 90's chevy pickup?

I'm on a pretty small investment on the car / powertrains that are available to me right now. I'd like to keep this project pretty affordable. And this stuff is basically cheap-as-free

If you really do have a Vauxhall Chevette, the body will need a load of strengthening before you even think about a better motor/transmission. (and upgrade the brakes) It will crack the floor pan along transmission tunnel if you fit decent suspension (at least, if you corner hard, the body twist's but the wheels stay on the ground)

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to work at stiffening the chassis.

I've found quite a bit of info on putting a 60* V6 into a Chevette so I think it is a much simpler path to take. As much as I would dare to be different and do a Ford motor, it's just not in the cards at the moment.

It was called the Pontiac Acadian here in Canada. We also had our own version of the Nova that went by the same name. I just always refer to it as a Chevette to people because more people know what a Chevette is.

I found this a little while ago. I'm using it as inspiration.

I'm benchmarking mid-2000's hot hatches for this thing. Hopefully the lightweight will give it a good advantage.

No...no...no.....

It's a PONTIAC!

I love Pontiacs, and I love rally cars!

Which means, I love this project that much more now!

Do you have the car?

Do you have a list of things the car needs?

Very well, I'll be sure to refer to it by its proper name from now on. It's a 1986 Pontiac Acadian Scooter:headbang:

I don't have it torn apart yet but it's been secured at this point. Working on it will progress after the tow pig for it and some other projects has been finished.

Gonna work on the list ASAP.

This is why the Acadian is so cheap.
