ranger refit/build thread

Such a cool project, so much was done with readily available parts.

Now all you need it a turbine to power it, sounds like you've got the gears.

Hey Tom, how's the project list? You get the little Jaguar thing finished? Or the 435904860455834 ft long tow rig? Or the shorty sploder? Or perhaps this awesomeness?

been focusing on the house bit mostly, stress from it has been eating away at my desire to do anything.but it's almost over, the lawyer called thursday to say probate is finished and i faxed in an offer yesterday.
now i'm just waiting for a response.

i've been doing a little here and there on projects, but it doesn't add up to much.mostly just work stuff...gotta keep those bills paid.

of course, stretch is my daily driver so it just gets abuse...though i did vacuum some of the beach sand out of the interior today:icon_thumby:.

Long time no talk Tom. Sounds like things are about the same these days then eh?

Gwaii why don't you have anything with a Detroit diesel? Seems like your kind of engine

i play with them every now and then on commercial fishing boats, but for all their appeal(and noise!)i've just never had one fall into my hands...and that's how most of my inspiration occurs.

that would be cool if a N14 60 Series Detroit Diesel fell in to your lap, with a super 9 speed transmission.

of course that could hurt your lap.

My parents just bought a 1980 32' stamas sport fish with twin 6V71s. Cool motors with a great sound. They run surprisingly clean and smokeless as well. At least ours seem too.

they're pretty popular with the crabbers here...been holding up well for something that was designed to be essentially a dis[posable engine for wwII landing craft.

btw,as of about half an hour ago i became a homeowner.that's been a long, stressfull haul.maybe once i get this shack dealt with i can concentrate on the projects again...it was the uncertainty of the landlady's death and not knowing if i was potentially 30 days from having to move that kinda shut everything down.

Congrats!

And as I understand it as long as you rev the piss out of the Detroit they'll be happy for a long time.
