PlumCrazy's Build

Some you may have noticed that Ruff Stuff no longer offers the 4.0 mounts, but I lucked out and was able to find a member willing to part with a set. So it looks like those will be going in this spring when the motor comes out for gaskets and a pump.

I talked to Dan at RuffStuff, and there is chance they may start making the mounts again down the road. But there were too many variations of mounting points on the driverside mount to be certain they would work for everyone.

My rebuild kit came in today for the box and it all went together nicely until I went to put the dust seal in for the pitman. It is too small, just kinda falls out. No biggy I am just going to get a pitman seal kit and use just the dust seal since everything else was fine. I swap boxes this weekend hopefully.

Also swapped the 45* fitting for a 90* to tuck the hose back further.

I am pumped to see how this thing works

I see what you did there. :icon_bounceblue:

Plum, did you do all new bearings and tephlon rings as well?

Just bearings. I learned my lesson last time I tried Teflon rings with my 94. They stretch and roll and rip.

These ones look fine, no scoring or scuffing, so I am leaving them.

You just have to take your time with them. Keep the old teflon rings on the shaft so it's easier to slide the new ones over the lip.

I could probably do them no problem now. I have rebuilt a gazillion hydraulic cylinders since I tried doing that box back when I 16, but I dont think it needs it.

Ill probably eat ny own words later, but I am not pulling the box apart again.lol

Yea, I wasn't going to, BUT, I don't want to touch it later.

Well.. I picked up another seal kit for the pitman arm. Same story. Fits the shaft fine, but the OD is too small. If I turn the shaft the seal turns with it.

I decided to put a small bead of JB weld in the outer rim of the seal and it seams to be fine now. Its just a dust seal.

I think this box has either been apart before, or was remanned. Its like the only box I have ever seen that didn't have the little metal tag under the bolt, but it does have Ford seals, do IDK.

On another note we dropped the 4.oh in the B2 last night. Feels good to see something in the bay after2 years.lol. but it turns out we need Ranger motor mounts. The IFS Expo plates cock the engine and set it up way to high.

On anotherer note......vote for me. Im only 3 votes behind for OTOTY. I never thought I a chance.

Hydro assist is complete. Ill get some pics up tomorrow sometime. Getting alll the air out of the system blows. Box was basically empty besides what I could pour in, cylinder was basically empty, hydro boost adds another place for air to hide.lol Seems to be bled out now though.

Good to see that the Hydro is ready :yahoo:

PICTURES!!

Not 100% done, but just a few little tweaks left.

I need to weld tabs on to mount the male quick disconnects to replace the temporary bolt on loops. I think over the time the stress from the weight of the hoses will bend and stress the lines unless I make a more rigid mount on the frame.
IMG_20130121_163710_zpsfbe3bb0f.jpg

I also want to weld a small tab on the pass frame rail to attach a spring or bungy cord to for supporting the hoses.

Also ignore the random hose loop hanging down.lol It is part of my unfinished engine oil cooler lines. My hard lines need some tweaking before they are ready to go on, so I just looped the hose for the time being.

I also want to replace the compression union with a JIC union, but I didnt have one on hand when I put it all together,

Looks good. Does it steer alot better now? I've never build one of those I've only done full hydro.

O yeahh. I can steer with it in 4x4 with a spool pretty easy. In 2wd I dont even notice it. If its is balls cold it slows you down a little, but once the oil gets moving and warm its not noticeable at all.
