First post....

I've got a 2011 4x4 Auto with about 60,000 km (36,000 miles) on it. 90% highway miles, about 1% dirt/muddy roads, no off road at all.

I started to feel that the brakes were not quite right about a week or two ago and yesterday heard the dreaded metal on metal sound when pressing the brake pedal. (I have discs on all 4 corners.) I pulled the right rear brakes off and sure enough the inner pad was completely gone, the outer had about 50% wear left on it. The rotor was toast. I pulled the left rear off and the inner pad was as good as gone but the outer had about 50% wear left as well, the rotor was fine. Checked the fronts and all pads on the front showed about 50% wear left.

Just wondering if this is normal for these trucks. Any other vehicle I've ever owned went through fronts far more often than rears. I'm not sure if muddy roads could cause problems or what's up. Any help or ideas would be appreciated

Thanks for the replies.

It is possible to have a caliper stick and drag at times. or perhaps the pad isnt really retracting once you get off the brakes causing the inside to drag on the rotor with some pressue.

60K kms on rear disc brakes on a truck is nothing to complain about. Whereas rear disk brakes stop better than drums, they wear out considerably sooner.

Where do you drive the other 9%??? :thefinger:

Sounds like the caliper or slider pins are sticking.

Typically front brakes do 70% of the braking... having the rears wear out first, particularly only one pad on each wheel definitely means something is wrong.

That would make sense... If that is the problem I wonder if it is simply from driving on muddy roads a couple of times a year...

As for the other 9% of my driving - city.

Vehicle with rear disk brakes, you will replace the rear pads more often then the front, they are more prone to sticking as well. The reason is dirt, anything the front wheels kick inevitably ends up being driven through the rear brakes. This is why some makes have gone back to rear drums on their vehicles.
