1993 Splash build

Yup. It really sucked ass. I was replacing carrier bearings once a year, easily.

Well I had to get a new trans, so I got the M5OD. That meant I had to get a new shaft, so I went with the good one.

I havent had that luxury. Now is the perfect time.

NIce dude thanks!

On a side note, I got my crossmember finished. I've been thinking this over in my head for weeks now. There is NO clearance w/ an auto transmission and a long travel suspenson as far as crossmembers are concerned. This is what I've come up w/.

If that's the tranny mount you might want to cut off the frame mounting plate and put a bushing on like you did the left side, unless your gonna solid mount the engine and trans...

Im still keeping the OE rubber bushing on the transmission. One side of the crossmember will be bolted solid to the frame, and the other is the bushing.

Is there a disadvantage to do it this way that I'm not seeing or....?

I have mine bolted both sides to the frame, only the trans mount. No problems yet...?

I havent had that luxury.

I wouldn't call sinking as much money as I did into unexpected parts on that project a "luxury".

I think I paid about $600 for the transm t-case, and drive shaft.

I think the final bill for the swap came to almost $1200.

I didnt now/realize you were keeping the stock mount. But it is rather pointless to mount it solid on one side and use a bushing on the other. I'm thinking of changing my setup, but I'm using stock trans mou.t and solid mounted on both sides to my link mounts...

I've ran into too many clearance problems to run it any other way. The catalytic converter is right above that bushing mount.

I definitely would have solid mounted that side, the heat from the cat/exhaust will take its toll on that/any bushing...

Or a johnny joint. The one of mine right there is shot already, grease keeps running out, even synthetic. Thought about making some kind of heat shield.

I've got a heat shield for it if you look back through my build thread....

Finished my crossmember tonight and installed it. Bought my rear shocks (same exact ones as the front), painted/installed them upside down due to clearance problems. Started working on back brakes. Need new hard lines to finish up. I ended up bolting the extended brake hose to the breather vent. Now, a stock ranger/explorer breather is too short to use so I had an extra F150 8.8 breather laying around. The stock hose bolts up to that so the breather's long enough. Fit perfect. I'll end up with a 35" piece running over from the passenger side and a 12" piece from the driver side.
