HID kit conversion

i will, and yeah ive restored my headlamps and there pretty much as clear as a new set would be. so i think im good to go thanks for all the help

As for the legality, it's debatable. Lots of people think its illegal, some people thing with projectors they're legal, and some people think they're legal projectors or no projectors.

Legality is not debatable. Per federal law hid conversions are illegal. The only time a car can be legally converted is if a vehicle is if they were a factory option on a vehicle, but that option was not installed. Even then the conversion must be done with those factory parts to be legal. The reason the law was created was to give law enforcement a way to punish those who install them incorrectly and as a result are a nuisance and hazard to other drivers on the road. The law wasn't put there with the intent of stopping people from doing a proper conversion with proper projectors, that was just a side affect.

There is a big difference between legality and enforcement. Per federal law is is illegal to modify the exhaust or suspension from factory specifications, how often is that enforced? Same with HIDs, it is illegal to convert (except those rare cases) but it is rarely enforced. Most of the time the law is enforced for HIDs is if being pulled over for something else. Almost no cop is going to pull someone over due to HIDs being installed, though I have heard of it happening to a couple people I went to school or work with. Those few occasions I have heard of it happening were when installed in stock housings, or cheap "eBay" projectors (actually hologen projectors). I've personally never heard of someone being ticketed when the HIDs were installed in proper projector housings.

I have heard a lot of people knock the Silverstars saying that they don't last long at all....

I've heard the same thing but I'm going on four years with them installed in my 99 Ranger. I bought my house out in the boonies in October 08, and shortly after moving in decided I needed a little more light output on the truck. I've had one installed in my bike since 06 and it's still bright as the day i put it in, but I haven't ridden much in the last couple years. From what I can tell the key is not to touch the bulb with your bare hands. Most of the time I hear of them dying prematurely it's because the bulb shatters, which happens if you touch them due to the oils in your skin getting on the glass.

I forgot to mention check your voltage at the bulbs, too make sure your getting enough power to the bulbs.

I know when I did a relay set up for my headlights, I notest how much brighter thy got.

I've had hid lights in my 89 bronco 2 for 2 plus years. They are 10k blue ones and I have been flashed twice(keep in mind my b2 is lifted) never have had a issue with not being able to see at night and have never been pulled over cause my lights are to bright and mine are almost twice the legal limit. Have same setup in my 84 Toyota and agian never been pulled over because of my headlights. Picked up my set for the b2 off eBay for like 80 bucks(but it the high and low beam kit). I love them and everything else just doesn't seem bright enough anymore.

Ok I'm calling bullshit here.
Either you don't know what the hell "10k" means, or your just BS'n.

If you want to see everything, get 5k or 6k MAX. That's what your eyes will adjust to easiest to see the most detail and shit.

And 30K..... Gtfo.

I'm with 6.2... Color temperature has nothing to do with brightness, except for the higher color temps making it harder to see.

I know the color is the temp difference and no don't know the specific meaning of k so gees you guys want to give me shit cause I don't know every little term. Pardon me I'm not book smart. Whatever.

/facepalm

"I'm gonna go buy HID's.
What is the "k" stuff?
Who cares, oh look blue and purple lights. So pretty"

Poor baby. Want some cheese to go with your wine. Why would you use a product if you did not know what they are able to do? That is like buying a mixer and asking it to chop vegetables. Just saying. Oh yeah and welcome to the site.

If you knew what color temperature was then you would now what "k" means, because that is what it is... We're not giving you shit for not knowing your terms, we're giving you shit because you have purple headlights.
