Can't, otherwise I would. We're heading up to Chitown to see my younger brother (first time he's had a weekend off in a looooooong time, so we're taking advantage of it).

I wanna see some good photos from that trip though!

Wee bit dry and dusty out there. The dust wasn’t too bad once you jumped onto the trails the dust settled down quite a bit:

All and all a good day carnage wise. One popped D30 shaft, one dead U joint on the ranger, and two wore out TRE’s.

Looks like I'm heading to Flat Nasty on 8/4/12. I still want to make a trip down to Turkey bay this year (maybe September?). We'll see...

Yeah, I'd like to wheel with the TB crew one of these days, as well as that goofy fella from up north that just got back form some 'Ultimate Adventure' or something :icon_twisted:

Is TB open all year, or do they close it down in the winter months?

It's open year round unless there are bad storms that come through. They have a website you can check for closings, so you won't make an unneccessary trip. Last time SVT was at TB there was white stuff on the ground and finally gave me the go ahead for axle upgrades (broke a stock 28 spline 8.8 axleshaft)...

Because you were trying I donuts in the parking lot!

I'd rather break in the parking lot on level ground than out on the trail. In all actuality, if it wouldn't have started bouncing, I think it would have survived being Lincoln locked with an light to medium foot. Oh well, upgrades are better :icon_thumby:

This is true.

Ben, can you get me a part number from your radiator? I really need to do this upgrade. The Sarge is not friendly with road driving anymore

I've updated my post on that one to include the number now.

Application:
1994 Ford Explorer
Auto Tranny with A/C
"Maximum" cooling option

Murray 432217 (from O'Reilly Auto Parts)
UPC: 40876422179

If you haven't already, check your fan clutch, and make sure your fan shroud and radiator sealing (the foam crap that goes around the radiator) are in good shape too. Try to minimize the ways that air can 'leak' around the radiator and not flow through it.

Sooo.

I am seriously considering getting a set of the military takeoffs, but ive been stuck on the fence for soo long.

what i would like to get is a tire that does good on and off road (yeah i know those dont exist) wear descent and arnt gonna cost me an arm and a leg. the real dealbreaker is that i'll be running a 16.5 wheel and recen-h1's are out of the question.

so my question to you is how do you think these tires would do without the option of airing down ?

my brother runs them but hard to judge due to his very eratic driving style. gets burried in the easiest spots yet makes it thru some gnarly stuff and doesnt even notice his hubs are unlocked (no joke)

im really not sure if i want to give up all offroad traction to gain a cheap, tuff, long wearing tire.

id get the re tread takeoffs. looks like a open country m/tthey seem like theyd be better then a regular h1. im trying to find xmls for my f350 right now works out to about a 39 amd have a standard 16" rim

First time looking at this thread for a while, but those pics of Washita looked sweet! I like that comp cut CJ. Pretty cool... for a Jeep I mean.:D

only reasone im even thinking running the mt takeoffs is because there is a place a couple hours away that sells them so i can hand pick my own tires. ive talked with all my wheelin buddies and they are all on the fence as well. lucky for them they all have descent tires at the moment and arent in my pickle for mixed driving.

if i was JUST wheelin it. then the decision would be easy, however for how much roads this thing sees now between running to camp and driving around the takeoffs seem like a good choice except for the whole bead and traction issue
