Funniest Repair Orders you've seen?

Yeah, I want to know where they found this thing to hit it. They were out-of-towners visiting Bucknell. And judging by the shell pieces it was a big turtle. I cannot for the life of me think of where you'd find a snapper in Lewisburg, and I don't know of any other turtles in PA that get that big.

People love to have ponds built with the idea of swimming. Then snappers move in and kill that idea. Just Google Earth your area and you'll see where those big turtles are coming from. They feast on the goslings that are invading people's ponds.

I had a tire go flat on my little car. I took it in and the guy was scratching his head when I came to pick it up. There was a bone in the tire. Apparently I had run over something dead and it had speared me through the plies with a rib. He was a kid, maybe 30, but was still old enough to have worked in the business for a long time. A bone.

I remember this thread. Ah, the good old days when I was still a mechanic. Now I work damage & defective of a retail store and see the evil side of human nature. Talk about the lies and theft. But the return tags is what gets me sometimes. Having a reason for a product is one thing, "Broken" is not a reason. Its a state of condition. If I get a few good ones tomorrow, I'll post them here for your all enjoyment.

I'm dreading this when I finally change out something to non-stock:icon_welder:
Luckily any of the employees at any of the parts stores down here know quite a few things but then again there is a surplus of mechanics and stuff in south texas lol. Anyways I have noticed that down here AZ in particular has been hiring a lot of women...so not to speak ill of women but i've already run into some situations where I have to tell them they are wrong...

Ya there are alot of women down here as well. My favorite auto parts story is when I went into auto zone and asked the lady for a set of manual locking hubs for an 87 Ford Bronco. Simple right?

Her reply...
"2wd or 4wd?"
:shok::annoyed: Really... I think I stared for a full minute.

I had another one at oreilly tell me that they didnt have motor mounts for my truck. After 5 minutes of telling her that im sure they had them, I took the mouse and turned the computer screen. Found it in 2 seconds under engine mounts.... *sigh*

im an RV tech, customer complained "the refrigerator only works on electric when im plugged in". go figure!

I do this frequently at work. I know a few guys here have gotten sore at me for speaking ill of parts guys, but our parts department is so pathetic that after watching the one guy dabble with the system a few times I can now frequently steal the computer, look up the parts I need, and get the prices in less time than it takes to get a parts guy to help me.

See now that's something I couldnt stand. Im the parts guy at my shop and as soon as the truck (98% of the time it's a big rig) hits the bay, I have the parts sitting in front of the it INCLUDING any bolts, nuts, washers, they may need.

Walked into Napa, asked for a steel rim for a 94 ford ranger. (needed a spare) I said it needed to clear the locking hub. Hes spent 5 minutes on his computer, then asked 4x4 or rwd...

this is the OWNER of the store...

needless to say i go in with part numbers and dont waste time.

I usually go in with part numbers anymore and often drag along the old part....

But anymore I still get idiot parts counter "help" that demands I give them the vehicle information.... So then I get mean....

Me: But I gave you the part number!
Them: Well, I need to look it up and make sure you're getting the right part.
Me: I know what I need.
Them: Well, I need it for your warranty information too.
Me: Fine.... it's a 2000 Ranger AWD with a 5.0L
Them: Ahh... you mean it's a 4x4 with a 4.0L?
Me: No, it's AWD with a 5.0L.
Them: But they didn't make those, are you sure that's what the vehicle is?
Me: Yup, it's right out there in the parking lot. Don't worry about how I got one, just pull the friggin part number I gave you.

If I get a newb that I don't feel like explaining everything to I am just working on multiple vehicles.

One day my 1995 Mustang GT got a new thermostat housing, my 1996 Explorer got a new upper radiator hose, and my 1987 Crown Victora got a new set of spark plugs. :D

I have the main guys trained that my Ranger deviates quite severly from stock, they are pretty open... and through work I can peek and see if they have it in stock or if it is at their warehouse. I can actually bypass them completely and having it sitting on their shelf the next day without even talking to them if I want to make a point. :icon_thumby:

I noticed that most parts stores dont really require any tech experience and/or knowlege to be hired. I always assumed this... until my friend Amber got hired at Auto Zone and she doesnt know much about vehicles.

Is it just me or is this true?

i don't know why you guys even play the game with them, i just go to the computer, look up all the parts i need, print out the list, and ask them to get them for me.

Yes its true, vatozone doesn't have a system to learn anymore. Its almost identical to their website.

My Mustang has plug wires for a 1989 Chevy Blazer with a 350. I tried explaining to the guy what I was doing, and it flew right over his.head.
