Project 4x4 Commuter Mazda

Did some towing this weekend, that's a 10,000# capcity trailer, it weighs 3500# empty. John Deere mower is right at 1000#, and the Ford is just shy of 3000# with the brush hog on it.

Might have a line on CL for a FW HP D44 out of a 78 Ford, minus brakes, but complete (with warn hubs) BRAND NEW 4.88's and install kit, open carrier and knuckles/balljoints.

If I get it I will narrow it down, throw my locker in it and sell the other one I narrowed back in early Spring.

My back yard is gonna have hella parts everywhere!

Dude backed out so now I am probably just going to regear my current 44. Maybe this month.

Got the Aussie in, along with a hardened cross pin.

Also scored a barely used Sierra gear & Axle HP 4.88 gear set for $80 from CL.

Taking axle to get gears installed tomorrow:

I know not much to look at, but they guys sealed the stock diff cover on so I'm not gonna peel it off. I was gonna run a RuffStuff cover, but I'll rock the stocker in the beginning to save some money.

I will be ordering James Duff fullsize Ford long arms at the end of the month. :icon_thumby:

take my advice, while you can keep it rotated like that to save the gear lube...get the cover of your choice and install it now....

I thought I would "save some money" and run the stock cover and hit up against a rock and dented the cover in against the ring gear....needless to say it just about ate through it...

luckily I didn't go much further that day and didn't lose all the fluid or ruin my ring gear....way cheaper for a new cover than a new gear/set-up:icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

You are right, I have the worst luck and knowing my I would put it up against a rock first time out. Before the maiden run I'll put a RuffStuff cover on it...gears/install aren't cheap! :icon_thumby:

not only that....Id run a pattern to see what it looks like...not saying not to trust whoever did the gear install, but you might as well....

you have the 10in eseries bar correct?

cool. i sold my Kragen HIDs and broke a dually so i think im gonna save and snag one of those.

How did you break a dually? they are stout little lights.

Keep the single good dually and run it as a back up light, and get a 10" or 20" bar for the front. you won't regret it :icon_thumby:

I just ordered JD Fullsize long arms for the 44.

Now I'm saving for a good deal on wheels/tires and misc coils/bearings/seals/balljoints/tie-rods & hubs. About $2000 in stuffs :icon_bounceblue:

I might be on track to do the swap on Winter break, but I won't be broken hearted if I have to push it until next Summer. I really enjoy my truck as a commuter as is and occasional wheeler. Capable, drivable and decent on power/mileage for a 14 y/o pickup. Only way it could be better is if it had a 4BT Cummins...

thats my plan. one bright ass backup light and a bar up front. i busted one with too many water crossings i guess. water got in and wrecked the ciruit board.
