who the hell owns kia and were are they from???
was looking at ford festivas...and this kid had one and it said kia all over it....old badging too

I Believe "killed in Assembly" is from korea Not sure thought.

It probably is, I noticed at work today that Kia's have the same annoying "ding" sounds as the Hyundai vehicles do, Hyundai is Korea based (I think). Makes me think that Hyundai/Kia is like the Ford/Mercury relationship.

when i owned a kia for three short months it had hyundai stamped all over the engine and then this happend
kia

kia

his car barley was damaged compared to mine but yeah deys made in korea

Kia was bought out by hyundai a few years ago. Early Kias were built using old Mazda engine designs. Ford put Kia on the map by selling the Festiva then the Aspire both made by Kia.
Could Ford/Mazda have something to do with the opening of the company in the first place?

Kia's are cheap little cars that don't last a long time.

The base 4 cyl. in the cars likes to crack exhaust manifolds, and the front wheel bearings are too small. Additionally, the oil seal where the CV shafts slide into the transaxle like to leak.

Those are the problems I've noticed. However, for the money ya can't really complain.

i think just about every car company has a hand in kia and hyundai. the 2.4l 4 banger is a mitsubishi block with a different head. the kia/hyundai version is dohc and the mitsu version is sohc.

thems fightin words! :black_eye:

no but really, thats kinda a scary thought.

on the sportages they all have a heater core problem.... why, because the heater core was glued together, not crimped or soldered but glued. and the auto hubs are activated by a electric pump in the engine compartment that use small unreinforced rubber hoses to move the hub locker.......i know this because i was given a 2000 sportage. and as a 4 cylinder suv it gets 20 mpg max and 18 around town. i am trying to find a replacement right now that wife accepts.

Every company has had a hand in Kia or Hyndai at one point in time or another. A buddy of mine has a 2007 Corolla and he opted for manual transmission after finding out that the automatic transmissions Toyota uses in the newer Corolla's are made by Kia. Ford had their hand in Kia for a wile, Chrysler used the Hyndai Pony for quite some time (badged as the Colt). For the what you pay, what you get value of Kia / Hyndai, they aren't bad cars (lol, I can't believe I said that). They are like buying a car from a Dollar Store. You can't expect them to last or be completely reliable, but they work for what they were designed for, they're cheap to maintain and run, and when [they] (the sealed for life gas tank) runs dry, you toss them and buy another. They are a good car for someone that needs something cheap to run back and fourth from work or short trips, and likes getting a new car ever year or every other year. I will admit, for the amount of them on the roads here in Calgary, I see very few come into the shop, and the only time they really need repairs is when someone either screws something up by doing something they shouldn't have, or when they are maintained poorly. They're decent little cars, and they're starting to make their mark on the auto industry, I'd rather buy a Kia/Hyndai thats Korean made over a "Cherry" (apparently soon to be released to North America) thats a Chinese Knock off of Chevrolet. At least with Korean made things, you know the quality is not as good as what it could be, but its more consistent then what comes out of China.

What more can be said? Kia's are just flat out simple, cheap cars. Personally, I would like to never own one. I did like the new Toyota Corolla, thou it seems better built than its yester years.

I personally own a 93 festiva, and i gotta say, at 240xxx miles, its still really peppy and has many miles left on it. Now as far as cheap, yea, their cheap, but at 45 mpg, a little preventative maintenance is just saving me money. Now korean built, all i gotta say is their in south korea, which is a whole heck of alot better than sout korea

My Colt Vista had a Mitsu motor and tranny...don't know about the rest of the car, but it was a freakin beast. After my ex wrecked it, I bought it for $50, j-b welded the radiator, fixed the return line on the power steering, and put a tire on it. That thing ran forever and I would still have it if I hadn't abused it so much. I put it to death on some sweet jumps.
