92 ex 4.0 to 87 BII 2.9 swap

My mess of adapters.

Here are my notes, i hope it helps out a lot, maybe makes it easier figure out the 92 wires.

That is great! I can deffinately use those notes. Now I just need to get to the salvage yard and get pigtails for the BII side of the adaptors, and check for differences between 92 and 93 Exp 4.0 EVTM colors.

I might just make some progress on this thing.

okay here is a few pics of my wiring between my 89 B2 and a 91 ford explorer
most wiring was between the bronco II dash harness plugs and the 4.0 ecm plugs

heres my 2.9l fuse box you can see the alternator wires are attached close to that
youll want to use the 2.9l power distribution box and that alternator harness

all the other wiring was on the drivers side fender
heres the jumper harness i made that connects the one main plug coming from the 4.0 ecm harness (brown plug) to the bronco II harnessthat runs to the dash (black plug and Grey plug)

n heres the other bronco II plugs( bottom 2 grey and black are orig 2.9) (the top one was from the 4.0 harness) they go to the transmission and engine gauges
i used my bronco II engine gauge wires.oil pressure, temp, oil level

yeah the harness i made is def the cleanest part all the other stuff is coverd in oil crude n grime.

but i cant imagine the wiring on the older 2.9 to be that far off

the 4.0 ecm wiring and harness is all pretty much contained by itself with only a few wires braching off the engine harness to go to things in the dash like tach, gauges n a couple fused circuts.

so those would be the only things id think youd really have problems with during the swap

I got the 2.9 doner harness yesterday from the salvage yard, to build the adapter with. Now I'm working on the wiring file that ronclark graciuosly provided, adding 87 BII info, and 92 Explorer info. I think, if ronclark doesn't mind, I'll post it when I'm done. (after testing it, of course)

Then, if someone wants to add info from there swaps of different years, we could build a nice little 4.0 swap data base. Maybe post it in the tech section.

Thats fine with me the more info we have one swaps the easier it will be for everyone.

I think on my application, I'm going to add the wireing numbers, and if I can figure out the connector #'s, I'll add those too.

ronclark, I'm sorry, I meant on to the file that you originated. I was adding the 87 BII wiring color info and also the wire numbers and trying to find the conector numbers as well. Just extra info to help make it as easy as posibly for any body that follows.

Eh, sorry, I have been delayed. I just moved to a new city, and started a new job that is very intense, and had to put it on the back burner. I brought all the essentials with me, so as soon as I get a new part for my chopper to ride so I can use it as my dailydriver, Then I can start dismembering the BII.

Actually, I think I should build the adapter, first as well (duh). I have everythng I need, just been too busy to get my $#!* together.

I DID do the research and put together the wiring colors/numbers, and connector numbers and added them to ronclark's wiring file. I just need to actually apply it to be sure it is correct and works the way it should, before I feed anybody info I haven't verified.
I know it sucks to wait on other people's lives....sorry. I'm doing what I can!
I'll let you know as soon as I get some results!!
