if your looking to just do a day jaunt with not to much tech, go to robinsons flat campground take a left and head down to french meadow res. via foresthill rd.
you would run out of pavement at robinsons. lots of nice scenery. never gone down, but i did come from french meadow to forest hill. saw some wildlife up there. coyote, bear and a few deer.
there is actually a few roads to traverse before you get to robinsons flat.

I wish i could tag along. if not to just tetst out the rebuilt tranny. But im in the process of getting the house ready to go on the market.
Plus i need to save my $$ for ham class and a radio.

The foresthill rd from robinsons flat to french meadow is a 2 track that isnt maintained. I did the it in 2wd.

You might want to call and make sure the gates are open if you head that direction. I would think they would be open. But you never know.

for sure, wait till wes sees, im thinking i need to be back in sac by 3ish so back on the road in foresthill by 2ish, that should give me time to come home and shower and get down to san jose before dark for the family shenanigans...
