xplorer and ranger trans..

The mec told us to day our 98 ranger had a xplorer trans in it. Any way to tell the diffrance?

From what I recall they both used the 4R55E.

There answer is no because there is no difference.

we took the ranger to the mec he pulled the codes on the trans and it said it was missing 5th gear the truck is only a 4 speed. he said someone has put a five speed in it. i have looked for numbers on the trans but it is impossible to see the top of it still in the truck. is the a way to tell them apart besides the numbers.
