I am having trouble trying to decide what truck to buy…So I thought I would ask for some help from the Members.

Year: 1986
Price: $900.00
Rancho 2.5 lift, Auto hubs, 4wheel not working, 2.9 unknown mileage, Interior in great shape for and 86, Small amount of rust on hood and around rear fender, exhaust is toast, has been sitting for over a year and still runs pretty strong, Check out the link for the for sale AD

Help me Guys I am not sure what one to get I am going to get one of them on Saturday I just don’t know WHICH ONE!!!!!

I'd go with the second one. Just for the manual stuff, and well, I'd have a hard time trying to convince myself to buy a truck that's sat for a year.

well you have to weigh your options here. Old automatic tranny which may go because of old age or wheeling, old one also has auto hubs not that manuals are expensive or anything. Then theres the newer one with the manual which could possibly need a clutch but also has manual hubs. I personally like the the second one better.

I'd go for the second one.

The ad for the first one says it's got a manual transmission but from what I can from the picture (and, to be fair, it's not a great angle) the only manual part is the t-case, so whoever posted the ad or whoever is trying to unload that truck doesn't know what they're talking about which would make me wonder what else they lied about or neglected to mention. Second off, I wouldn't wanna buy into something that someone's already lifted, you never know who did the work or how well/poorly they did it.

Just my opinion.

2nd one has far more pluses:

The nicer seats
Manual shift/hubs
Power everything
It's a '92 so when the 2.9 goes bye bye, a 4.0 is an easy swap.

look at the pic of the drivers door. theres a clutch pedal. i would assume its got push button 4wd but i dont know if that was an option in 86. you can see the transmission shifter, not the t-case shifter.

i would go with the first one without a doubt. go over it well and make sure everything looks right with the lift. its even already got extended radius arms. for the difference in price, i wouldnt even think twice about it. the only thing i question is that you said $900 but the ad says $1400 (i dont think its worth 14 but i think it is worth atleast 9)

i guess what it comes down to is you need to decide what you want/need it for and how much you can pay.

I like the second one. It overall looks better and has a better interior and I'm guessing the first one has a Dana 28 and the second one has a better Dana 35.

Those Rancho radius arms aren't that swift.

ok---so call me retarted, but both trucks have a pushbutton t-case. both ads say manual, but i see buttons on both trucks, and i dont see t-case shifters on either. and the ad for the 86 says it has a 4.0 in it.

thats what I was thinking. but it was the first thing to load on my screen.

I would go with the second one even though i love the first gens looks, because it hasn't been messed with so it should be pretty sound. I would only buy a truck with upgrades on it if 1. I knew the guy who did the work 2. if it didn't run and i wanted to get cheap upgrade parts.

I agree with you Jim. Thats a tough one to keep focus with.

But I would go with the second one, depending on what you are going to be using it for. It just over all looks nicer if its only going to be a D&D
Depending on your location as well, the air conditioning may or may not matter. But even if it does you can always get it fixed.
