WTB: V8 swap parts.

I want to do a V8 swap into my 1990 ranger, but funds are tight so i cant afford brand new parts. i was hopeing there was anyone here that has parts they are willing to sell or know of a place to get them used. i already have a built 302 and AOD out of a 83 mustang but i need everything else. please help out another ranger fan and help me get my project on the road.

bout the only thing you need is an oilfilter relocator unless you have manual steering.

better radiator when you can..

so i can use the stock exhast manifolds for the mustang, and the ranger motor mounts from the 2.9?

I think you need to use the 5.0 mounts, but they fit to the Ranger brackets.

As for manifolds, most people go with shortty headers.

ive heard you can use 5.0 fox body convertible mounts, are there any other mounts i have a chance of finding at the salvage yard.

You can use the 2.9L/4.0L rubber mounts and use a flat plate that will bolt your engine to those mounts (this is what I did), or you can use the mustang convertible mounts, available at your local auto parts store for around $50 a pair or less...

I'd stay away from junk yard engine mounts. Aside from it being kinda dicey to get them out at the yard, who knows what shape they are in. Those are too cheap and too important to skimp on.

Agreed. Also, more info is needed, are you going carb or EFI?? This will also determine which additional parts you will need...

you mentioned "built 302" was already in possession.....

i...... ASS U ME..... it has decent shorty headers already. using shitty manifolds on a hot engine is a bad deal no matter....better to save some coin first.

this will require some trimming and rolling of the frame rails if they are fox application, but thats a given shit will need some fitting in that manner.


mant times the problem with fox headers is with the steering shaft, and sometimes you need to shim the motor one way or the other and or cock it longitudinally or a combination of that....its what you do on budget swaps.....

you want it to work and stay on budget .....and i mean like a weekend swap situation budget....thats one thing,

or spend 6 grand on bling shit you dont need and take two years to build a ....ranger?

the motor i have is carbed, so i dont need a computer wireing harness or anything like that. and the motor is a mild build just bored .020 over with performance intake and ignition. since the rebuild it only has 10,000 miles and 70,000 before that, so she shouldnt be tired out. im building this with the intent of useing it as a daily drive so it dosent have to be pretty, just dependable.
