Has anyone attempted this?

for example: installing a 4BT or 12v Cummins or one of the powerstroke engines?

Or possibly a diesel engine of other sorts?

I've been ponder it for awhile. I got a full size bronco swap in the works right now, but I've been playing with idea of doing a diesel powered explorer.

I think it would be fun project.

I want to put a 4bt in a BII. A guy did that to a Jeep CJ, got 200HP and 35MPG. I'm sold.

It'd be interesting, make sure and take a lot of pics for a build thread. A lot of people would be interested.

4bt sounds like the most doable... but very expensive to do the initial swap.

I've been looking for a 4bt (at a reasonable price and distance from me) for almost 2 years. When I find one, I'll be swapping it in place of my SOHC conversion.

I saw a giant 2-stroke CAT in a late 70's GMC so anything is possible. Even had an aluminum toolbox welded in to a diesel tank. Looked badass except the 6 inches of body lift needed to clear the engine.

Yes I know of at least one Explorer 4BT swap....Clicky that thread there is about the Explorer that is featured somewhere on this site that not much info was known on it. There is also a green 2nd gen sport that had I believe a 4bt swap but cannot find the website it was on years ago.

site is gone but mooktank has a b3.3 cummins in an ex and had a 4bt powered ranger

i wanna build a 4bt explorer one day... its gonna happen!!

OK! I'm going to check out a 4BT next weekend. :yahoo:

It already got the small block Ford adapter and clutch on it. (I'll replace the clutch, but its there.)
It comes with an aftermarket front mount intercooler, both the stock manifold and a custom header.

I already have a SBF Zf trans, np205 (or 2), a BW13-56 (the 205 should fit better), and a '95 explorer to install it in. I even have a bare '96 Frame to do the mock-up on sitting in front of my shop.

Here's the most surprising thing that I have:
The wife's OK to do another engine swap on my daily driver. (I just finished the 4.0l SOHC/ OBD-I swap on the same truck last year)

It wasn't a 2 stroke Cat. It was a Detroit...

Oh and....
