Project SVT

Hmm...Would it be a removable wheeling bed/flat bed for trail use, then bolt on the factory bed for street use??
SVT

Great minds think alike my friend. Great minds think alike:D

I hear Dove's are in season :D

I do like doves. Svt is that in the plans for you as well?

Sounds like a lot of trouble to me to go hit the trails

Well, since Rick is a genius and guessed my master plan, I will let the cat out of the bag.

Plan is to dove tail the bed that is on the truck, since it is all beat up anyway. Tail lights over the frame rails. Will still have a bed floor.

All i have to do is mimick(sp?) this bed. Cost me prolly around 2-300 bucks in material.

Then when i go wheeling, remove the good bed, throw the beat up one on. 9 bolts and a plug. I have done it so many times i can have it off in about 5 minutes if i have another set of hands.

I have a different plan, but I will probably have the shortest bed in history :D

Josh, how about having a set of quick release pins in the floor of the bed rather than bolts, and make a mount to the framerail inside the bed floor for the fuel filler nozzle, this way when both beds sit down on the frame, they will "seal" to the filler cap, this way you don't have to worry about unbolting that, just "4" quick release pins and the electrical plug... :icon_idea:
SVT

Never thought about that. As far as the fuel filler goes, I will be using something along those lines. It will be a flush mount fuel filler just like on the black truck

what about putting the fuel door so its behind the rear liscence plate? kinda a pain with where the tank is but the bed wouldnt affect it..

You can really go trick and relocate the fuel door into the X-cab...

I hate removing 20 lugnuts and swapping Mall Terrains for Swampers before & after a wheeling trip! And checking Crappy 35 wheel bearings! :annoyed:
And you're going to swap a damn bed. WOW! :dunno:

6 bolts for the bed, 3 for the fuel door, and one electrical plug....I bet the bed can be pulled faster than a tire swap, keep in mind he doesn't have toolboxes like we do Jay :icon_thumby:
SVT

faster if your design it to lift off like you had mentioned. with tabs and hitch pins

i dont know about yall but when i want to go to the trails i jump in the truck and turn the key. do en exo and you can keep the sheetmetal or just give it hell and make it look like a real truck

Yes. My truck is a transformer to an extent, with the halfdoors and such, but I don't think I'd want to go through the hassle of swapping beds to go play in the woods. Let the character accumulate.

but you dont have to change the doors, and somedays you want the full doors on for rain and mud.

if it were me id be in anhurry one day and decide to just run the regular bed and put a big dent in it or something, then you have a beat up bed for the street and an offroad bed thats beat up just as bad. just doesnt make much much sense to me
