mounted a shovel to my tool box

I did some light fabrication last week, mounted a shovel to my tool box. Bolted some 1/4 steel brackets to the tool box then bent a piece around the bottom of the shovel, bolted that to the bracket and an exhaust clamp to the other bracket to hold the handle. Here it is before paint:

and one for all you heep fans out there, since the shovel use to be on my old jeep

looks good, i always bring a shovel and my hi-lift incase im feeling more adventurous than Thumper is.

haha yeah I guess hi-lift is the next step

looks good. you might want to remount it with the shovel pointed in toward the box though. less chance of slipping and falling on the sharp point or cutting yourself on an edge when getting stuff in and out of the bed or box. that's how and why we mounted pioneer tools that way in the military.
just a thought.

Build one. They're not that hard to make and I know a guy who builds them for a living.

This might be a dumb question, but why not just throw the shovel in the toolbox? It's not like it won't fit.

nothing like a well used, muddy shovel getting crud all over your tools, winter emergency kit, groceries, etc. you may not be able to clean it right away after using it. and, again, those sharp edges may damage items in the box as things bounce around in there.

i'm not crazy about the strap. it looks like the same stuff i use for hanging HVAC ducts

I use Quick Fist clamps for everything like this....for my shovel and my high lift. They make sizes for everything up to big fire extinguishers.

those clamps are a great idea! I saw some at the store where I got my pro guard rack but they were too large. here is a picture of my rack:

my brother built one, it should be easy if you get some ideas from looking at a few first

No I know it would be easy to make one, I just wanted to see what a mass manufactured one such as yours looks like. It looks identical the one BackRack makes....who makes it BTW?

Its made by 'pro guard' who bought the patent from 'back rack'. So yes they're identical except its made in PA. The back rack seems to have better powder-coating than mine because mine is already rusty and my dad has the back rack brand and his is fine.
