iPhone users, read this.........

On star can disable your car already but it can take an act of god. They can track all newer cellphones there just might be a difference in accuracy. In the movie Maximum Overdrive it was a meteor that caused the problem.

nubs, i still use my non e-911 motorola startac on prepaid account, im glad im obsolete

You can track any one by just knowing your technology. I have access to my moms sprint account, and can track her every move if i wanted to.

I will never own a Samsung phone again..scratch that, anything Samsung. They are never on time with updates and they just lie to you about everything. The Samsung Epic for sprint just got froyo not too long ago..and i've been running froyo on my htc evo forever now.

The Epic is getting gingerbread here soon. Already released it in europe.

Hackers have already infiltrated OnStar systems before and disabled peoples cars, I'm not sure if any have been so nefarious as to disable them while they are at speed, but they have messed with them.

Also, every cellphone, no matter how outdated, can be tracked, whether through GPS in newer phones or simple triangulation.

Bonus info- Sprint has willingly handed over a years worth of a loooong list of customer's GPS histories to the government for no given reason. They just asked for it, basicly.

they will get bored if they watch where i go....

work,garage,home,work,garage,home,work,garage,home....rinse and repeat

I won't believe it till its actually on there.

I had the Samsung moment in December 2009, when it first came out. It was running 2.0 and i was told from the date that i bought it, from samsung, that they would be updating to 2.1 in a couple of months. Come to find out a couple of months turned out to be June, when i finally bought my Evo. Samsung is notorious for their updates being way off target..

Same here... :icon_thumby:

I have the E911 thing turned on in my phone. If my truck is laying upside down in a ditch in the middle of nowhere I don't want to lay there for days until somebody finds me the old fashioned way. I would just as soon they get me to the hospital than fight off coyotes all night with a ice scraper... if I can find it and am able to do so of course.

any phone can be tracked...in real time.

the difference with the i-phone is that it saves the tracking info-potentially for years.anyone that gains access to this info has a long-term log of your movements.

so if you are tracking an old-scool phone, you may find a trip to the liquor store.with the i-phone you can see a trip to the liqour store every three days for the last two years.while there's no law against doing that,it does give someone the abillity to profile you,and potentially cause problems for you.
you don't normally even consider the potential ramifications of a completly legal action you may have made a year and a half ago.

the more disturbing thing going on is the police have scanners that they can put your phone into to read all the info saved on it.while the intention of this is to gain evidence for more serious crimes, they are routinely used in traffic stops, and the info used to build a profile on you.
the law says that they can only be used in the commission of a crime.well, guess what-a speeding ticket or a busted taillight is a crime.

my life is pretty boring,too....but i'm sure if someone had a long enough term set of information on my every move some sort of pattern could be drawn from it that would have the potential to be used against me.

i have no intention of owning a cellphone.if that means i may be fighting off wolves with an ice scraper at some point,so be it.i'd rather die free than live with chains around me.

yep... easy to find me. heck if they wanted to know they could just call me and ask. who cares?? if the government wants to keep up with me, they will find a way of doing so no matter what phone or device i have... :dunno:

Another tid bit that Gwaii's post reminded me of, is that everything that has ever entered Google (now one of the world's most powerful companies) since day on is stored. They say this information stay attached to indentification for a certain period of time, then become anonymised after that period of time is up. They say this is simpley used to build regional profiles of it's users, and that the process of anonymization of the information prevents said information from being used for profiling/finding a certain user.

Using a similar method to profiling, a study was performed where anonymised information was used, and the people doign the study were still able to find the user who originally entered the batch of searches into Google. They basicly were able to find out her name, address, job, etc, etc.

Internet services are never free. That is why i am alright with sites like facebook selling my info..who cares? As long as my identity is being stolen, you can know that i like lil wayne.

this is something else i find disturbing.

the google ads spots on this site routinely feature lodges and such on the islands here.i'm sure these ads are not on everyone's computers,so that means a certain amount of profiling is going on just from my use of this site(it's the only one i'm on).

and we won't even get into the pitfalls of facebook....:shok:

gwaii, they defiantly get info from our computers to know what ads to put on their.. mine are either truck stuff, tools, or Justin boots... lol
