Finally I'm doing it!!! My 2000 Ford Ranger explorer 5.0 V-8 build thread with pics!

Some 2WD 95+ explorers had 3.27's, you might want to keep an eye out for one and later on if you decide you want to swap gears you can swap the entire axle (will actually be faster than swapping just the R&P)...

Hmm, I may keep an eye out for one. I will see how I like these 3:73s and go from there. It will see a bit of highway miles I imagine so 3:55's would be ideal for me. Not sure if I want to go as low as 3:27 but we'll see in time I suppose lol

keep the 3.73's... they will be fine... most of the guys i know back home who were modding their mustangs (5.0), were putting 4.10's or higher in them... mine had 2.73's which i didn't mind... and my truck has 4.10's and i don't mind them at all!

2000 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0L V-8:

Engine has 116K miles. Great compression, got it with complete engine wiring harness, the ECM, and the battery cable wiring harness all from the same 2000 Mountaineer. Also he threw in the motor mounts, engine plates, and the front engine brackets with it. Total cost on this was $435 with taxes and all. Not a bad price. It is in great shape with no cut wires or connectors and no cut hoses etc from either the motor or the wiring harnesses which is rare! So I got lucky on it. I think I got a great deal on it. All I need is an alternator, power steering pump, and A/C compressor. Good thing is though the A/C compressor in the ranger will work on this motor. So will a windstar, and other Ford vehicles I found out.

nice motor, good deal! i think 90% of the ford a/c compressors were made by york in the early year, and are all interchangeable, then the newer ones are different... but i could be wrong on that

Yeah it seems like it. Works out great for me. One less thing I have to buy lol.

did you grab the altenator harness as well?? If not, you might want to go back and get it...How much more would it have been in you got the alt, PS and AC compressor??
SVT

Yes I got the battery cable wiring harness with it also. And for the alternator, p/s pump, and compressor it was about $130 which was too much. I can get a used alternator here at the pick n pull for $10 and the A/C compressor in the ranger is in perfect working condition so I am just going to use it, and the p/s pump I can get for between $50-80 refurbished.

On the PS pump, it uses a remote reservior, did you get that?? If not, I might be able to help you on that if you need one, I got a custom one to replace the stocker. And IIRC a pump off of a mod motor (4.6) mustang will work...

wheres the coilpacks?

Here are some pics, and you can check out my build thread for more complete detailed pics, all the pics you will need are in the first post :icon_thumby: Here you can see the reservoir, and the pump is just below and to the left of it...

Oh ok lol. I know what ya mean. And I am not sure if they did or not but if not I'll snatch one from the JY. I may just go get the whole pump from the JY actually.

Those don't come with a short block. If I wanted to spend $1,350 I could have bought a long block with everything on it ready to drop in. No thanks lol. When you buy a pulled motor at the salvage yard it usually does not come with any accessories.

you need to deal with a different yard...or deal harder
