4x4 doesnt work anymore

i have a 1988 ford ranger with push button 4x4.it worked a couple weeks ago before the snow and now it wont work.I push the 4x4 hi button and it click or whatever that sound is to engage it.But the light beside the button wont come on and it wont engage into 4x4 maybe a blown fuse?Any help would be nice.
 
i got it working.The light beside the four wheel drive comes on and 4 wheel low works as well.All i did was got a rubber hammer and beat on the motor on the transfer case and tapped the connecters down there a bit to.Am going to take them apart and clean them after the snow leaves.But for now its fun time:headbang:
 
well i tryed to put it in 4x4 this morning and it didnt do anything but click .it wont engage in 4x4 the lights beside the push button 4x4 wont come on but it clicks when you push the button.Any one else had this problem?or can anyone help me?
 
I'd say your shift motor is either A) hooped, or B)the little rubber piece on the engagement gear has disintegrated. If not that I'd be looking at your 4x4 control module located behind the driver's side rear jump seat. Pull your shift motor off first to verify.
 
i got the shift motor almost off i got one wire left i think its a ground wire but it goes into the transfer case and the only way i can get it out is cut it will it miss anything up if i cut it?
