Hey there. I'm new to this forum.
Have just purchased a second hand 2008 Ford Ranger XL4. I'm just now reading that the Ford Ranger has always had a lot of heating/cooling issues... especially with the blend door inside the plenum.... which seams to be a constant complaint for a lot of Ranger owners.
Well, I also have just 2 temps. Full-on heat or medium cool A/C. I've already removed the blend door actuator, and the blend door is working fine. It isn't broken. But the actuator is not working. How do I tell if it is the actuator or if it is simply not receiving any current? My next step is to test the eight-pin connector for power with a DVOM. Does anybody out there know what the voltage should read for each of the 5 pins? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Does this help?

Does 2nd hand mean salvage title? That should be under warranty if not.....unless it has a bunch of miles.

My Two Bits

My problem with the blend door: The actuator was fine. With it unbolted from the top of the heater box, I could watch the shaft move into any position I wanted with the control knob. Placing my finger on top of the blend door shaft (where the actuator would connect) I could move the door just fine and was very free. But on closer inspection, I see that the socket (that the actuator shaft would go into) was split, allowing the actuator to turn with no result.

If this is your problem, the real fix would be to remove the heater (but first the dash?) and either replace it or just the blend door. There is a cheaper/easier fix but it involves a wood screw and a cable operated heater hose valve...
