Ford to end Ranger Production in 2011

yep. old news i'm afraid. the 2011 model year production has begun and it is the last. plant closes next year.

Can this be made into a sticky?

Why, if you and others would just check in each months Ford truck news section you would find all the updates. This ending production has been talked about for maybe two years now.

I know.....I have known about it for a log time....my brother-in-law has worked for Ford for over 30 years now!!! He also told me a year ago about the new F-100!!!

Mine found paradise... my driveway! and its ugly disfigured twin in my back yard..... that would be the parts truck.

With all the new engine options for the new F-150 it sorta makes sense. A 3.7, 3.5 twin turbo, 5.0, and 6.2 are the four options I believe, and the 3.7 gets over 30mpg in the Mustang so I imagine it should get better than 20 in an F-150. I still prefer the smaller size of the Ranger though. Not that it matters to me anyways, If I am gonna have a Ranger, it is going to have TTB. No if's (lol), and's or but's.

The 3.7L Mustang with a stick is rated 19/29 and that means about 24 overall. The mustang is a bit lighter than the ranger.

The Mustangs are not all that light any more. I'm finding around 3700 lbs for the GT manual, all depends on what year & options on the Ranger.

I couldn't agree more. In fact, I was just doing some looking to see what types of vehicles I might like to look at potentially getting to replace my two vehicles that are getting older, and not only do I think getting rid of the Ranger is a bad move for Ford, but I think it's a bad move for America in general. We are increasingly living in a world where fuel efficiency is becoming more and more important, and a few car companies are picking up on this, such as Toyota with the Yaris and Prius, and Volkswagen with the 2.0L TDI motor that at not quite 50 MPG knocks the socks off of even a Yaris as far as gas mileage and even as a diesel leaves less of a carbon footprint than the 87 octane Yaris does. But this must really sacrifice performance, right? No; the 2.0L TDI motor has more HP and torque than the 2.3L Ford Ranger motor in my truck. Unfortunately, VW only offers their models that I consider to be really ugly with the efficient TDI motor, and does not offer it in their sportier looking models. Nonetheless, if a car gets near 50 MPG, I can overlook ugly. Looking for something to potentially replace my Ranger which is getting very old now, was less successful. There was not 1 single American truck in the 2010 lineup from any company that was a smaller truck like the Ranger that had a little manual 4 cylinder, other than the Ranger itself, and the newer Ranger only gets 1 MPG better than my old 1990 Ranger, so why spend $20,000 or more on a new one (when in reality I'd rather have a small efficient diesel like VW's TDI anyway if I were going to spend the money on a new truck)? So, the conclusion I came to, was that my old 1990 Ranger is going to be in the fleet for another 5 / 10 years, and I began giving it a tune up and making it look presentable considering that its life is now going to be extended a decade longer than it probably should. If Ford wants people to buy American vehicles, they should have learned from the fact that they just had to be bailed out because they can't sell what people want to buy, and discontinued anything but the fuel-efficient Ranger, which even the Ranger is nowhere near as efficient as it could be by modern standards, and that is their best model that not only Ford has to offer, but that any American car company has to offer. Very bad move in my opinion. It's a move in completely the wrong direction if they want my business. That's really a shame, because I have always loved Ford trucks as long as I can remember. We have always had Ford trucks in my family.

why couldn't ford just stuff the new 5.0s in rangers for their final model year? give them the kind of fair well salute they deserve.

People have been crying wanting Super Crews forever, been wanting Ecoboost since it came out, wanting more room in the cab forever... and now that they finally get it they are saying they hate it and think it is stupid that Ford is redesigning a 12 year old platform and that they are so perfect they way they are. Now all the sudden they don't need the updates they have been screaming for over the past couple years... it all makes so much sense

I'd have to agree with lub997, Ford is making a big mistake getting rid of the Ranger. Just give the people what they want a 2.5L Duratorq diesel 4 cyl. with a stick that gets some mpg's, quit shoving these automatics down our throats just because the younger generation don't know how to drive stick's while texting. I'm glad I ordered my 2010 when I did. I'm averaging 23 mpg in suburban driving with a stick, 4 cyl.
