2.9 B2 Serpentine Belt Conversion

Has anyone converted their 2.9 B2 from V-belts to a serpentine belt? The serpentine belt is supposed to be much more efficient, and may result in slightly better fuel economy. With gas over 3 bucks a gallon, it may be worth it. Any input is appreciated.
 
i doubt you will notice much of any gain and any gain you may get will be negated by the parts you will have to buy, hence not saving you any money. Do a tuneup, and make sure that everything is functioning properly, thats the best deal for the money.
 
has any one converted there 2.9 to serpentine. dont care about change in mpg. just would ranther have serpentine then v-belt.
 
why would you rather have a serpentine belt? they have to have all the accessories there and its a bitch to change it cause you have to pull on tensioners. youll have to convert all your pullies too, go ahead if you want but its not worth it and its going to make your truck harder to work on.
 
it takes longer to remove the 3 v-belts then to pull on one tensioner. so its not going to make my truck harder to work on. and i know i have to convert all of my pullies over, to make it work. my main question was has it been done and how hard was it to do.

Not that I've ever heard of. You might compare a 4.0L water pump blade (or whatever it's called) to a 2.9L, or route it in such a way that the water pump doesn't turn backwards (probably not :))... You'd be kind of screwed on the crank pulley.

try finding a reverse rotation water pump that will fit the 2.9 Then get all of the accessories to line up, and convert the pulleys. a properly installed and tensioned V belt will last just as long as a serpentine belt. I can pull and replace all three of my v belts in under an hour and the last time i did that was when I had to replace the belt on the air compressor that I installed, there was some pulley misalignment and the belt shit the bed, that was almost a year ago. its not worth the time and the aggrevation, not to mention the fact that you are adding weight and two more failure points (idler and tensioner).
 
thanks for the input, not that its something that i am running out to do. just wondering if it can be done. might tinker with it when the ranger is done and the b2 is just sitting around. (who knows might fingure something out)
 
i can change all 3 of the belts on my truck in about 30 min. probably like 20 now that i took the a/c compressor off. have fun finding one the correct length too.

The likeliest way to do what you want would be to find an '85 Aerostar with a 2.8
and swap pullies off of the 2.8 onto your 2.9.

Though technically you'd only be swapping to "multi-V belt"
(where the efficiency comes from)

"serpentine" implies ONE belt and reverse wrapping across some pullies.

Frankly yeah, you can do it, but the whole process has about as much
point as wearing a condom with the end cut off.

I swapped my truck to a true serpentine system using 4.0 pullies,
But I left the 4.0 engine attached to the pullies when I did it:)
